Good idea! :D

Cheers for the pictures Silver. There not the worst Exhaust/chrome tip's i've seen on a car. If i do decide to order a hatch vrs i will just have to live with it as will not effect the day to day running of the car. I only bought my current car due to needing a big boot and good rear space but not a big car.

Porsche on the cayenne have a black plastic block inside there fake one which looks awful.

Im considering having mine done gloss black, like:

But not sure if i prefer having the chrome

Simples, if you don't like the fake exhausts, this so called cost cutting then the answer is don't buy one. No ones forcing anyone!! Lol

And surely if anyone is that image sensitive they wouldn't buy a Skoda, VRS or otherwise?

And why not? Is there something wrong with the Skoda brand?

I don't consider my purchase a compromise despite the badge.

Not to me, I just don't understand the concern over having x2 exhaust exits - they look good to me, even if one is fake. All I'm saying is if folk are that concerned what others might think, then you should be aware of the greater (mis)perception of Skoda as a brand rather than whether exhausts are fake or not.

I do agree though, that there is a large of cheapness with the Octavia III and as more and more things like this come out its not helping. They know they now have a good market, so its cut the corners, whack the price up and away we go.

My next car was likely to be an Octy III, but having looked at all these things people are finding about poor design decisions and omissions its more than likely just going to be a late-model Octy II Scout. To bring the current Octy III 4x4 up to the base spec of the Octy II one, I needed to add 9 options in the configurator!

The new model though is bringing on buyers like me who would NEVER of considered a skoda before. The Octavia 3 made me sit up and listen. I liked what I saw, so I bought one. I have no regrets yet. No it's not perfect, but even with a few flaws its still a damn good car.

Personally, I don't see the cheapness with the Octavia III that other people talk about (apart from the vRS exhaust thing maybe). For me, the OctyIII is a step up from the OctyII in perceived quality in the way it looks and feels both inside and out. I never liked the body colour door frames between the windows (looks old fashioned), the over large rear light clusters on the OctyII and for me the dashboard looks so much more modern on the OctyIII.

Also, you can never compare the spec of the last of an old model with the spec of a brand new model. All manufacturers load up the old one to get rid of them and cut back on the new one because they know they don't need the spec to sell them.

As ever, I guess it's down to personal taste, but I don't think I would have bought a brand new OctyII, whereas I have bought a brand new OctyIII.

New mirrors have a blind spot compared to the old ones because they changed the shape for something more 'fancy'. Handbrake on the wrong side. No accelerator foot rest. Dash top cubby gone (where I setup my satnav). Boot side storage doors gone. Those are just a few off the top of my head that will affect me and have no real excuses.

Add this cheap fake exhaust on the VRS to keep it on topic :)

As to the options, I was comparing to a pre-fl 4x4 base spec, not some late run out model. It is genuinely a step backwards in base spec. To me, changing to an Octy III would be a compromise losing functional things from my current car. I don't care for some of the stuff they added, like DAB and other than it being new, I don't see what's really there to drive me to get one.

So don't buy one!! Your entitled to your choice. Try and find a car that does tick the boxes like your current model. The oct 3 ticked my boxes and compared to the old model was in my opinion a huge leap forward. Its obvious its not for you though!!!

I am trying to find one :) The Octy III may not be 100% it, but its the closest new car to what I want so may end up with one anyway. All the options are a compromise, I'm just annoyed by some of the, in my eyes, unnecessary decisions made by Skoda.

When I finally drive one I might be completely willing to forgive a few minor things, but that doesn't mean those niggles don't exist. It will at least have all the exhausts putting something out though :)

Huge leap forward ? I'd say leap back if its missing stuff the mkll had.

I don't think anyone is saying its not a leap forward. But I think that for the price for what are the usual skoda owners its not such a great buy.

Yes its good and it's solved a few of the issues from the mk2 but it's not 8k's worth of better if that makes sense.

It's just my opinion but it's just slightly over priced.

For a new customer to Skoda I'm sure it's priced well.

Personally i think its reasonably priced but would say top end of reasonable, when list price of a decent polo you could pay £16k, or even a fiesta for that matter.

As said before if you don't like exhausts and think its overpriced for what you get buy something else, personally im very happy with the spec I have for £25k

I'm with M12MKD on this one. One of the things that's dissapointing is how poor the basic spec car is equipped. The stupid (IMO) fake exhaust on the CR being an example of this, only fitting inner sill plates on the top level another. Yes you can add extras in a zillion combinations but all that aditional cost will not transfer come trade in time which if you've added quite a few to cover what's missing compared to what you got on your MKII as standard then it'll be a hard pill to swallow.

I did say "in my opinion!!" I've lots of cubby holes to put stuff, it's well screwed together, has a vast amount of room, quality trims/materials that match my last car, a 2008 merc c class. I will repeat it is not perfect but I'm sure there will be a huge amount of current mk2 octavia owners who won't like it, but horses for courses you can't please all the people all the time!!

I also feel for a small hatchback that is over priced lol

Don't get me wrong people will pay it and there is nothing wrong with that. And yes if you look against the others maybe it's not such a high price.

But I'm an old customer of Skoda and for me personally at the spec I require it's too rich for me.

Please don't take my moan aimed at Skoda towards anyone who's ordered the mk3 its a great car I'm not saying its not, it just didn't wow me like the mk2 did.

Pumatron, you either just dont get it or want to listen what the current owners of the mk2 octy's are saying. yes you are correct, you will never make every one happy with a car, but thats not the point, it's more to do with the spec and features that have been removed or no longer std and the cost cutting. Getting this topic back on track, the fake exhaust, the octy diesel vrs does have two pipes fitted to one side, so why not take one to the drivers side????? If you look at the pictures that silver posted you will see TWO outlets on the exhaust.

I know what your saying, but everything goes up in price

Which features on the MK3 are missing compared to MK2? I know about the jumbo box lack of aircon inlet, but what else? Genuine question.

See my posts further up for a start. That and it takes 9 options to bring the new 4x4 to the base spec of a pre-facelift Octy II 4x4.

Ah right, personally I see those as changes rather than removals. As far as tangible additions go, as I'm looking at a vRS, I get xenons, bluetooth, DAB as extras over my MK2 vRS. There's probably others.
