Soon to be no longer a Skoda owner

Featured Replies

Yep the lease company said its still included which was another big factor in the plus column for the car

I could do with a brief idea of how the cruise works with its stick, didn't play with that much on my test drive

It's simple once you've used it a few times. sort of 90 degrees out to the way my Audi was and so probably the same with the Skoda's (can't remember what my Octy did).Pull to set and nudge up and down to adjust. Push to cancel. But if you notice the little button on the end of the stick, give it a press and it turns into a speed limiter instead. You can tell which mode it's in by the dots that appear around the outer of the speedo. If the dots go from 0-current speed, it's in limit mode. If the dots are around the outer from current speed to max speed end stop, then it's in cruise mode.

  • Yes the spec is as below i've also added the DAB, Rear Camera and Harmon Kardon sound system   Driver Convenience Attention assist Bluetooth interface for hands free telephone COMA

You can buy a c class for mid twenties. It doesn't have to be a top spec one.

I got mine on a crazy PCP deal MB were doing at the time. Don't think it's available any more though.

The selective dampers are great. Motorways are super comfy and sport makes the whole thing a lot more wieldy. The flappy paddles aren't much use in normal (Econ) mode as the changes are so lazy with them and the fact you can't really hear the engine means you keep having to look to see if it's changed and what gear you are in :D

Oh ad the driver attention assist does work!

I should add, I recently bent a wheel in a pothole and the wheel cost around £600!!! "it's an AMG wheel madam". Yer right, it's a wheel with AMG stamped on it. It weighs a tonne!

Start at £35 k that's without the extras ?

Its a gorgeous car the merc so enjoy it waplord , if its a lease you can give it back and get the mk3 vrs ;)

That link is for the Coupe I think  :)  The saloon is a little (but not much) cheaper :( My monthly payments aren't that much more than my Octys were, but the cost of replacement bits makes your eyes water !

I have a MB Sport Plus :) I got it last summer and love it. Much prefer it to my Audi A4 3.0tdi Quattro that I had previously (and I did like that car). Great choice. I specced up the HiFi, auto dampers, light pack and a few bits and bobs, oh and I had it debadged

Here's a link to my photos of it

Here are a couple of extra interior details too

Lovely looking car - like the interior, do you prefer the half leather combo? I presume the seat centres are alcantara/suede? My Superb has the half leather and I actually prefer it to the full setup.

250 looks like an epic engine on paper.

Very nice. Quite fancy a Merc next tie myself but it'll be a used C or E estate. Would love to get one with the 250 engine.

The one I've picked is the half and half which was the same as the demonstrator they let me have for a weekend and i agree with you i prefer the half leather i found it much softer and more comfortable than leather.

I just found some of the build stuff to be fantastic and how anal they are about stuff apparently every switch in a modern Merc only has 0.8mm of travel and requires 4nm of pressure to apply it.

Even the fact that the AMG models have a hidden spoiler in the rear taillights, if you look at the picture there are a series of holes in the tail lights and the way they have designed it apparently it provides down-force in place of a traditional spoiler.

Thanks I am not a fan of full leather as I prefer the grippyness and natural warmth of material. Yes it's alcantara, but the outers are vinyl! Sorry, Merc call it Artico :D

Well following my test drives and considerable thinking about it i've finally made the choice and ordered my new company car, wont come as a surprise to some of you i've gone for a C250 AMG Sport plus saloon in fire opal red as an automatic.

It's been nice owning the Octavia but its time to move on, i'll still be around on the site causing trouble as ever.

Car arrives in 6-12 weeks apparently Octavia will be going at the end of September.

Why do I feel a certain amount of skepticism when someone claims to be going from a £15K Skoda to an ultra expensive £30+K (not even regular) Mercedes?

Because the OP is leasing and not purchasing - either a personal lease (for business) or as a company car driver.

I know when my friend was looking for a company car (was merely given a budget), Mercedes were practically giving them away and as the OP has said he has had deals where the Merc was better than a Prius even though when comparing list prices the Prius was cheaper.

Exactly on the company car lease scheme prestige cars tend to often be better value than others due to residuals etc.

I'm sorry but who rattled your cage how can you presume to know my circumstances? for a start when i purchased my Octavia brand new 3 years ago it was considerably more than 15k, also i make a decent enough living and this Merc wouldn't be the most expensive car driven by a member on here by a long shot! What possible reason could you have for saying that apart from very badly trying to troll.

Much nicer than a skoda! Nice car.

Why though? I'm intrigued why this is often assumed! Is it looks? Performance? Badge??

So quick to accuse someone of being a troll. My point was valid. If you can afford it why did you not get something like this 3 years ago?

As 3 years ago he wasn't entitled to a company car.

Because quite simply i didn't want one three years ago i made my choice at the time and picked the Octavia due to the offers at the time such as scrappage as i had a very old car here i wanted to get rid of too.

When the lease is up on this Merc who knows what i'll go for, i wouldn't be the first or the last member to go from a Skoda to a Merc or a BMW or something else then onto another brand altogether .

People's circumstances change all the time. 3 years ago I was still saving hard for my vRS. When I change next year I'll have more to part ex and more saved so I can buy something better if I want. There is a car life outside Skoda. I've pedalled Skoda's since pretty much passing my test and when I jumped in another car that was a sporty model it was a revelation. There's a good chance I won't be driving Skoda next because I want to expand my driving palette but I'll stay here. Even some mods don't own Skoda's here.

a. His current Octavia was £22k+ new, when he bought it three years ago.

b. The new Mercedes is leased, he is not paying for it, his company is.

You seem to be comparing the current used price (maybe, I've not checked, but seems in the right ball park) with a new price of a quite regular Mercedes. What can be more regular than a rep-spec C-Class? ;) And if you think £30k is "ultra expensive", may I introduce you to the S-Class; I think you'll find you'll have to dig down the back of a few more sofas to find the pennies for that. Although let's be honest, a lightly optioned Golf GTI is a £30k car these days...

Having seen leasing figures, you may be surprised that the ticket price bares the square-root of bugger all to the lease price. Skodas are cheap to buy, but expensive to lease. Mercedes are expensive to buy but cheap to lease. This is because the lease price heavily depends on what the car will be worth at the end of the lease. And comparatively, Skodas are worth nothing, whereas Mercedes hold better value, making the actual cost over 3 years less on the Mercedes.

Exactly the same with your Citigo - the same spec up! will be worth more after 3 years, so will cost less to lease.

And none of this matters not, as his company is paying for it. Waplord merely picked from a list (after extensively test driving a few) and his company have told him "Yeah, it'll be here in X to X weeks". He could have picked a BMW 330d, or Audi A4 TDI. Or Citigo. Doesn't matter, it's not his money. It's a perk of his position, same as extra holidays, or health insurance.

End of.

He is getting an AMG model.  I have a friend who has a AMG modified merc that cost £70+ used.  £22K for an Octavia would be madness.

He is getting an AMG model.

And, your point is what exactly? AMG is beginning to go the way of Audi's S-Line, nearly every Audi is an S-Line.

Exactly AMG is pretty much Mercs sport styling brand like gti for vw and VRS for Skoda, a lot of people have spent over 22k on an octavia before and will. Ali what exactly is your problem ?

She doesn't appear to be understanding things, chaps....

It's an AMG Sport, it's a trim level. It's not an actual AMG C-Class, as that has a 6.2 V8, not a crappy derv!

C63. Yum. I'd work for the devil if I could have one of those as a company car!

Thing is if I was getting an AMG63 (I'm not) why would that be such a problem to you Ali? I know a member on here with a Nissan GTR and another with an S3 do you have a problem with them too ?

Me too but the tax on it would be astronomical
