Elegence Seats

Featured Replies

Just completed over 5K and I have an issue with the seats, plenty of room and support but my back is killing me!

Tried lots of different positions, but within 5 minutes on being in the car my back starts to ache; lower back and now leg.

Oh and the bloody stitching is coming undone on drivers seat and rear seating.

Does the MKIII have electric lumbar support? if so then try pumping the bottom one out to the maximum position, I suffer with really bad back pain, but with the lumbar support at it’s maximum position I have yet to have an issue with any VAG seat (A6, TT, MKII Superb).

No just manual lumbar, played with this and no luck.

Never had a bad back before, eek!

Go and see a Physio and take the car. SWMBO is a Physio and gets tons of people moaning about their seats. Generally, the position of the seat can be improved or you can buy extra lumbar devices.

The (non electric) lumbar support fitted is IMO completely pants for anyone with back problems, although as you never suffored with a bad back before they should have been OK for you.

Ah now I think I know what the problem might be because I had exactly the same issue. The seat is too low. Before you spend any money on physios, just try elevating the seat. I couldn't believe what a difference it made. I liked to sit rather low. Now I sit a bit too high ideally but no problems with back or sciatic nerves anymore. Try googling car seat positions too.

Also, if you have a wallet in the back pocket of your trousers, take it out when seated.

Good luck. I sympathise hugely.

VAG seats IMO are very good and supporting so experiment with seating position.

Could be too low, high, too close or too far. Personally I need the back to be fairly upright else I get issues

I prefer the seat high (the old VW Galaxy was excellent)

BUT

I did find notching the seat forward a nick more than I thought it needed made a huge difference.

To drive the lower back in against the seat back and be properly supported.

Because of the DSG I now keep my left knee snug up against the side/curve of the central console.

The lack of the constant relatively heavy clutching probably also helps

PS

Despite being a fan of VW seats I find the manual fore/aft adjustments a trifle coarse.

Thanks for all the advice.

I have now made the seat higher and moved closer to the s/wheel, felt an improvemnet straight away. Must admit feels a bit strange being so close to dash in such a big car, rear passengers laughing then.

Going by the last two generations of Octavia, uncomfortable seats and lumbar support in a wrong place is one of the most repeated complaints on this forum.

My personal experience is that they are quite comfortable (and I do 12-16 hour journeys across continent in one go, without stopping few times a year) once you find that perfect position. I'm in a lucky position that my car has the electrical adjusted seats with lumbar control for up, down, in and out, but I have to admit, every time I spend a day in courtesy car my back is sore. You just need two or three days to find that one position where everything is in the right place.
