coilover advice

Featured Replies

Alrite just picked up my fabia vrs and already thinking i wanna drop it. Whats people opions on coilovers and what ones to go for. Do i go cheap and get joms or save up and get some AP racing ones????

Do a search mate

Go for APs, I had some cheap FKs (£200 the set) they last just 8 months and 8,000 miles before they started leaking. 2 year warranty on them I was told....still waiting for my claim since April / March lol.

Awesome GTI are selling APs for £369 I would pay the extra and get those :)

The only thing is that you may need to spend another £40 or £50 on top of the cost of coilovers to get new bump stops, etc so you will be looking at spending close to £400

That still doesn't include the cost of fitting them, wheel alignment, etc, which could easily be another £100 on top of that

That's why I changed my mind again and ordered the AP springs and shocks set.

The springs and shocks were what I originally wanted and i got drawn into coilovers, but once I added up the total cost, it wasn't worth me getting them so I ordered the springs and shocks, and had money left over for a RARB as well

It's stiff so abit bouncy but not as bad as others make out. I do between 2000-3000 miles a month in mine for work and it doesn't bother me. For £200 I can more than happily live with it and it transforms the look of it. For a performance car the standard height is disgusting!

As with most things you get what you pay for so get the best your budget allows.

If you don't want to spend too much or can't wait to save up then something like the JOM or Prosport kits are good for the money and get you low without having to spend a lot.

Its not though tbf, its a Skoda supermini with big bumpers and a taxi engine in it :D they are a little 4x4 looking stock though.

I have coilovers on my SDI.

They are FK's and the ride is bouncy. But they were cheap and have lasted. Still look new.

Dont go very low though, fabias are notorious for being hard to get 'slammed' low.

I had Joms in my old mk3 golf, going from that to AP's on the fabia I would never every buy jom's or anything cheap again, the ride is much better and feels a lot more stable when pushing it into corners

If in doubt the search box on this forum is great, I have found most of the information I need regarding these things to have already been discussed on many occasions

If you buy from DPM performance I've used the twice and can recommend them :)

My thoughts are that if you buy cheap then you buy twice. Who are vmaxx?

I've always had shocks and springs or just springs on all my old cars and I've had spax and koni etc but I don't think the JOMs are that bad. Yes they are bumpy but it's bearable and for the price I can't fault them. I know what you all mean by buy the best you can afford but I personally wouldn't pay £400 upwards so I'm quite happy with them

Vmaxx's latest kit is suppose to be very good. Had a couple of people run them, one on a Fabia and rate them well. Alistair at Unit 18 rates them highly too (anyone who knows Ali will be aware of just how critical he is about aftermarket parts so it says something) adjustable damping also.

We're matching the £369.00 delivered and no you don't need new drop links.
