Worth taking a chance?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm looking at getting Fabia VRS for my wife and have seen one locally which is a 54 plate, 105k, MOT til April 2014, priced at £3,000.

The problem is that the seller is having difficulty getting the service history documents from the last owner.

I appreciate in most cases the advice would be to buy one with history but I have asked the seller what sort of discount they could offer if they are unable to get any history and am wondering what kind of discount I should be looking for and ideally after some suggestions as to what precautionary work I should undertake if I ended up buying it.

I was thinking full service as well as cambelt / water pump but is there anything else I should be factoring in?

Cheers!

If it was serviced by a dealer, you may be able to get the history from them. I've done that with cars I've bought to verify the service history is genuine.

Yeah I did that with mine but they had nothing on if lol but you only need the number plate so you could go check before buying it they don't charge for it

For £3300 you can have mine. 14 service stamps and the cambelt, water pump ect done 6k ago :) Save you some hassle.

Price £2500- £3000 is about right for buying private, a forecourt add £500- £1000 more.

Walk away. The price is in the correct range, but with no history you know not what it has had done, maybe oil changed twice ? cambelt and water pump ?

That alone will add £500 to your initial £3k

You know you might get £200 knocked off for no history, then on your drive home the cam belt goes. That is one EXPENSIVE Discount

Take care

Have my 54 with 74k full s/h for 3200 :-)
