Microswitch problem, or something else?

Featured Replies

Hi gents,

I've recently bought an 02 Octy VRS, everything is sound except one problem. The dash says a door is still open. Now I've read Octavia 1 - Replacing Door Latch Microswitch and I've not been able to match the symptoms on the car to anything in that thread. I've also scoured some similar posts regarding central locking/microswitch problems too.

Here goes:

All doors lock/unlock as normal - via lock and remote,

The puddle lights and interior light are on and stay on regardless of any door being open/closed,

I get the red 'door open warning' light on the dash, though no beeps or buzzing from the dash when driving,

No red led flashing on driver door when locked either by key or remote,

The battery is flat after a day or two standing - not sure if it's related but I'm including anyway.

I'm looking to take a gander tomorrow if I can source some spline bits, but could it be the microswitch has failed when it was 'open'? Perhaps someone with more knowledge can point me in the right direction...  :wonder:

In your case the CCU thinks the door is always open so it will lock/deadlock correctly. It's often the other way around.

The most likely cause is the door open microswitch or bad/corroded connections at the door control module (the box that is part of the window motor).

Easy way to see if the drivers door micro switch has gone.

When all working fine if you unlock the car but do not open the door within 10 sec or so the car will relock its self.

So just unlock the car and open and close the door within 5 seconds, the car should stay unlocked as you have enterd the car.

But if it relocked its self when you open and close the door then the micro switch must be gone, as the car dose not see its being opend

Not in this case. The microswitch has failed so that the car thinks the door is open all the time.

If you are sure that your car has auto-relocking (not all do) then in this case the test would be...

Unlock the door remotely.

Don't open the door.

Does it it auto-relock?

When I went to the car, there wasn't a door open light, unlocked the car via remote, left the door, re-locked itself after 30 seconds or so.

Unlocked again, opened the door, still no light. Closed the door, relocked.

Unlocked again, ignition on, door open light comes on (with the rest of the dash), ignition off, door open light stays on, shut door (still on) and locks itself after 30 seconds.

I couldn't get hold of any spline bits to rip the door apart this morning, so it's gonna be a next weekend jobby investigating.

Steath edit: Tested on the drivers door, not checked the others.

Edit 2: I'll check the door control module as I can get to that  :giggle:

Sorry for Double-Post. Just checked the door control module, everything looks clean and intact - almost as if the previous owner has tried to fix this issue himself!

I did notice the alarm LED was unplugged, reconnected it and it's still not flashing. Seems like I will have to get at the Locking mechanism and check out that microswitch.

Micro switch or/and connectors, 101 % sure.

Just be patient and go first from drivers door then around in circle for others (trunk micro switch too).

Don't forget to check and spray (WD40) wire connections in door pillars, JIC.

Good luck :)
