2002 Fabia 1.4 16v ABS pump

Featured Replies

Hi all, my dad is struggling to sort a replacement ABS unit for his 52 plate Fabia 1.4 estate, lots of ABS pumps but none that match the Skoda part number 6Q0614517L.

Anyone got any ideas on compatible vehicles, units or codes?

A new one is hardly worth it for the value of the car. He is in Lancashire if there is anywhere within distance to try.

Thanks

Does he 100% need one? You sure it's not just a blown fuse on the battery?

There is a fuse on the battery? is this a common thing?, apparently someone did test by hitting the unit and the ABS light went off briefly! but came back on suggesting a sticking solenoid?

The main supply fuse is on top of the battery. There is a sticky thread on it as long as your arm that dates back 10 years. Been catching people out since then. Replacing units as correct diagnosis not done.

That includes people hitting brake units with a hammer. It's crap like that gives us techies a bad name.

yep, diagnosis seems a tricky one with them but surely there is a better test! so the sticky is for ABS unit problems?

VCDS to read the codes and a simple voltage and earth test to the control unit would be an infinitely better way to test the system.

When they do go (if confirmed by a vcds scan) and nothing else works then try sending it to BBA-reman to see if they can fix it...if they can't get the unit back from them and separate the unit into the electronics block and the hydraulics block. Then get a new electronics block.£750 from the dealers

Best initial test is to eyeball the fuse. Look carefully, often it's only a hairline crack.

Handy money-saving thread here. Picture of fuses in post #7. Fuse part number appears in post #42.

£750, it's hardly worth it for the age of the car, looks like the only options are if the fuse is away or finding a 2nd hand one, which is proving almost impossible unless there are compatible units with other codes
