VRS Ride Quality

Featured Replies

I've read a couple of reviews in Evo and What Car criticising the Octy 3 VRS' ride, What Car going so far as to say it struggles to stay in touch with the road.

I've always though my current Mk2 FL VRS to have quite compliant ride considering its on 18s, is the new one really so much worse?

The one I test drove (estate vRS), I felt was a really good ride and that was on 18" pictoris alloys.

I've read a few reviews on line that say they 18 are supposed to be a good ride (as I found) but the 19" optionals are supposed to be harsh so unless that's what they were equipped with.

Well I guess they have to think of something to write ;) I didn't pick up on those issues in my test drive anyway.

+1 on the above. Journos are there to meet their editors brief and sell copies! comparing the octy with the golf gti is rather pointless IMO, because they are aimed at different segments of the market. you could easily turn it round...

' Driving the golf after the Octavia was dissapointing. The cabin size was small and wouldn't be suited to transporting 5 adults for any distance in comfort. The Octavia on the otber hand has more room both front and rear and will easly accomodate 5 adults transporting them in a spacious environment. It's no different when it comes to luggage, the Octavia has a much lager boot which will easily take enough luggage for all it's occupants, something golf owners can only dream of' horses for courses....

The ride seemed fine to me.

Having a mk2 then jumping staight into a mk3 vrs the ride was alot smoother in the mk3

The ride seemed excellent to me, but I am a RenaultSport fan boy and their cup chassis packs aren't famed for comfort or quality so anything would be an improvement!

What greatdane said. Seemed really smooth to me

I have done over 600miles in mine now and have no problems with the ride at all, it is better damped than the Octy 2, which can make it feel softer, but it corners better, and flatter, and with less understeer when pressing on. Incidentally my last vRS was run on 18s with conti sport 2 tyres, as is this one. It still has the ability to put a smile on your face, and with added comfort, what's not to like?

I'd echo the above, ride was find on some rather terrible roads in Harrow.

What car giving a skoda a bad review.....surely not?

What car complaining about ride quality? There's a shock. I'm starting to think they must drive all their loaners along cobbled streets.

Have to agree with charleyb, much better than my old fl

I've had two extensive test drives now and feel that the ride is far better than the mk2.

The braking is far sharper and the handling is by far the biggest improvement to me.

I found the ride much better on the MKIII with 18's. Although I have been a passenger in one with 19's and the ride was awful. I'd go as far as saying it was worse over poor surfaces than the Furby VRS MkII

I don't think they were saying the ride was bad, nor were they comparing it with the MkII.

It was versus the competition where they felt the Octavia vRS wasn't as good.

As I keep telling the missus, you can mock my good lady, but that inch really does make all the difference.
