Half a*sed dealerships with the new VRS?!

Featured Replies

I wasted x2 weeks  at Listers Skoda Coventry. They took me for a fool, trying to tell me that, doing only 5k year in a diesel vRS would not have any effect on the gfv after x3 years (amongst other rubbish!). Waltzed into Sandicliffe Skoda Leicester  and they agreed with my figures within x5 minutes. Matched my p/ex figure and shook hands. I have to say, the sales people ( I won't name names) at Listers were pathetic, especially considering that, I'd just placed an order for the missus' new Yaris at their sister branch. The bloke at Listers Toyota was fantastic, friendly and chatty. The guys at Listers Skoda seemed more interested in their appearance than customers buying a £27k+ car!!

Is there a reason to not go for petrol? It'd work out cheaper and more enjoyable at only 5k year

Not disputing it's faster, and therefore arguably more enjoyable. But how is it cheaper? Not being funny, just interested to know.

Unfortunately yes, my budget is dictated by the GFV. The petrol GFV at 5k miles is barely £11.3k, whereas with the diesel it is £13022.10! I'd given myself a strict budget for x2 cars, mine & one for the missus so, this meant I either barebones a TSi or specced up a TDi quite nicely. It's a shame because, the petrol would suit my mileage and driving style much better.

Lower cost to buy, so the derv will take longer to break even on car + fuel than petrol.

See http://www.whatcar.com/car-news/petrol-diesel-calculator/1198033

Break even is at zero miles. The tdi will depreciate slower. Even if depreciation taken out of the equation, break even is about 1000 miles per year, maybe less.

Theres only approx £90 difference for the fuel (over 15k miles) but, don't forget the higher insurance group, the cost of road tax along with the depreciation for the petrol. Plus I get more toys for the money :-)

Couldn't fault Paul at Simpsons in Preston. Rang up and arranged test drive for two hours later. It was a scorching weekend and they were very quiet.

Run the calculator on any car other than the Octy (as Mk3 values arent in so screw results).

Typically unless you're doing over 13k/year, petrol will be cheaper.

Tdi is cheaper, that's basically it.

With the monthly costs (due to a much lower GFMV) there's no way that's the case in reality.

Here's a link to a spreadsheet I created. I've been fair with it, just trying to establish the facts. Open it in Excel and change the values in red to see the true costs over 3 years. If you don't agree with the average MPG of each vehicle, change those, too

The break even point for the TDi (non DSG) compared with the petrol (non DSG) is about 200 miles per year. Yes, two hundred miles per year. This doesn't even take into account the lower insurance of the diesel, or the significantly higher resale/residual values.

Typically unless you're doing over 13k/year, petrol will be cheaper.

It's the myth that just won't die.

Easy maths for a 0% deal:

(approx figures)

___ Cost _______  GFV @ 5000miles _______ Bal to Pay (over x3 years) _____

TSi £23790                  £11250                                      £12540

TDi £24060                  £13020                                      £11040

Extra cost of diesel over 15k is only £90 (approx). Extra insurance for TSi £??? Extra RFL for TSI £110/year.

Even before you sign on the dotted line, you've got to find either £1500 extra discount or deposit to keep your monthly payments the same as a diesel.

Whichever way you want to look at it, the Diesel is cheaper!

Extra cost of diesel over 15k is only £90 (approx).

Whoopsy! Should've said my Mpg figures;

Using 50mpg for the TDi & 35mpg for the TSi

Mega Whoopsy! The figure for the extra fuel used by the TSi is actually more like £800 over the x3 years!

(schoolboy error in my maths :-( )

I bought an Octavia Vrs Blackline 8 weeks ago.  I approached my nearest dealership. just a mile away (Cheshire Oaks).  I turned up in jeans, t-shirt and trainers.  I was treated with contempt.  The only person within the dealership that actually treated me with any respect was the service manager as I was purchasing a spare wheel which the car did not have.

I was going to buy a Brand new Vrs and was advised by the Sales Manager, I would be better investing in the Blackline.  Which I have done.

What a difference a few hundred miles makes.

Paul at Simpsons Preston was nice, handed us the keys to the demo car we wanted and sent us on our way (after getting photocopies of out licenses).

Came back, after a fair amount of tooing and frowing between us and someone in the office we got a great deal and signed on the line.

Ordered vRS estate diesel manual, race blue, two tone alloys, red trim, sunset glass, spare wheel, colour maxidot, Amundsen, heated seats, nossles and windscreen.

Had no problem with Wayside in MK went in looked at the MK 3 Elegance but the false floor reduces the height in the rear (large dog needs space) and power was down on my wife's current Octavia. Sales man said the new VRS didn't have the false floor and they had just received their VRS demo but it was not registered yet, asked to try both  and brought the dog in (much to the amusement of the people in the show room!  Was told the car would be registered a few days later and arranged test drive for then (without the dog!) Good service and car ordered, due to be built week 38.

You can still set the variable boot floor at the lowest point, not just the highest level. That's one of the benefits of it being variable.

Sounds like they didn't explain that to you :-(

Buying my vRS from DMKeith Skoda York. Ordered the TDi estate with many extras including a panoramic Sunroof back on the 17th July, dealer rang me up on thursday explaining that they can't even get a build week with the sunroof specced, and if I would consider dropping it, after a lot of thought I did decide to drop it and add ACC instead. But this means i'm back of the queue again, there ringing me back on Tuesday to confirm a build week.

That was the bad news, but for really good news they rang me up this morning and asked if I would like to go for a spin in the vRS  with skoda pro driver what would say.............just got back and all I can say is WOW and a big  thanks to the garage.

p.s. my car will never see anything like that.

Have nothing but praise for Capitol Skoda in Newport. I went there out of the blue, drove their diesel manual demonstrator and the sales managers petrol dsg without asking. Ended up buying a vrs already in the system so stock with no options but got a very respectable discount (8%) to make it worthwhile. Got them to paint the wheels and tint the windows for free. Am picking the car up on Saturday midnight so on a 63 plate. They're sending me pictures through when I ask, just sent this one saying the wheels have been painted today:
