Intercooler cheap

Featured Replies

Hi trying to get a fmic on a budget I know people may have buy cheap buy twice etc opinion all are welcome, honest opinions of this particular kit would be much appreciated, eBay item number is 181176585966 I don't know how to do a link on ipad app if someone on a pc could copy and paste while there looking that would be great :) I was one of the unfortunate ones who missed the txautosport special :p I have hybrid btw

You'd get that to work, i dont believe on a massive intercooler for these cars and underneath the crash bar would work. This is on the smaller side but its more than suffice in our climate.

You'll need to route the pipes the long way around, it'll work may not be pretty but you'll still need a map sensor bung pipe, or a boss and get something fabbed up. Those U shaped might not be quite right, so I'd back on another £50 on top of this kit to get it all working.

Thanks binzie.

Oh crap forgot about map sensor I wonder if that needs to be certain distance from turbo or engine for correct reading ? I was thinking either run both pipes bak into where the smic used to be and then follow Oem path or run top pipe the Oem way and bottom pipe round the bak of rad at the bottom

i've been looking at that kit too, seems good value, the ebay intercooler i had on my ibiza was good quality and a bargain

I just wrote on your earlier post how you get on with drop link ? Think I'm gunna give it a go just wont damage smic then if its no good irl put it back on the side

Wasn't there a reply on the other thread saying they got their car mapped and this was the restriction? It was OK for mapped power but would struggle with a hybrid.

That was a tuners (think forge or jabba) comments on the txauto one, however they would say that since they sell one themselves which is about 3 times the price.

I'd have a punt on this for the price, think I'd want to see someone build one up first though!

Yeah jabba I think it was. That's surprising, didn't think they would resort to them tactics tbh. I use unit 18 who have been 100% impartial with stuff like this, I'll ask their opinion on it next time I visit.

Who's using it at hybrid power then?

i am only pd130 hybrid though trying for what i think is called the magic 200bhp lol yeah i bought one of the txautosport cooler when they were 79 quid but they stopped my order before it went out damn bank hols lol

That pipework won't work.

Here a pic if the intercooler I received today :)

Volume is 4.9litres compared to stock 2.2litres.

I think it looks like this one. But hard to say from looking at a picture.

Looks a little more custom than the run of the mill eBay "kit" - (used advisedly).

That one got the MAP sensor spigot in it somewhere?

J.

Noice! So that's at least two people that got the bargain i/c lol

I have been speaking with this ebayer and asked if this is as good as the txautosport one or darksides and the reply was they are the same ones.

Wonder who makes them.

hmm yes I wonder china??? I have a question to those who are good at maths and cars (which neither is me) the cooler here is the one im purchasing one way or another as it fits perfectly with no adjustment to crash bar .... now disregarding airflow has this cooler got a larger surface area and a better construction than the side mount construction I mean bar and plate etc btw I know nothing about coolers either so not sure which is best and not sure which has what hoping someone can shed some light many thanks lewis

Stock is 2.2litres. Tx one is 4.9litres

Either it's a mistake or its a mistake but the eBay link on my eBay (iPhone) states the kit is £119,000

LOL, it does now. It didn't a couple of days ago. That's inflation, I guess.

They usually do that when there out of stock.

I'm afraid that cheap intercoolers are usually cheap for a reason, i.e. they're no good.

The reason is that that are badly designed and constructed, they may *look* good but they're not.

Volume is not a significant statistic unless you know the effective surface area, if an intercooler has twice the volume AND twice the surface area it can still be worse if it restricts airflow more than the stock cooler.

Without knowing the effective pressure drop and surface area you can't know if it's any good or not.

Jabba may well have slagged this IC off because it's terrible, not just because they want you you to buys theirs.

However sometimes Chinese companies get it right because they faithfully copy a good intercooler design then make it out of recycled coke cans, these coolers can be a bargain but they are few and far between, most chinese intercoolers are made in radiator plants and making an intercooler is nothing like making a radiator so most of them are terrible.

Ok?
