How fast is a Type R Civic?

Featured Replies

Not according to the roadtest figures in some magazine (which i cant remember maybe someone here has seen it and can) which compared it with the MCSW and Golf GTI. The Cooper S Works was the faster car by a fair margin, doing 30-70 in 5.5 seconds.

Factory quotes for Civic Type-R from 0-100km/h is 6.6 seconds, while that of the SW Mini is 6.8 seconds. Pretty understandable the Type-R is faster, if I remember correctly it is also a lighter car.

I think they actually mean the VTEC mechanism rather than the engine itself.

Surely the encompasses the engine, you blow a Vtec motor you blow a Vtec??? Surely!

Serves them right anyway for the most annoying adverts ever created :D

The seats are rubbish unless you are lardy

And the mats are

I've never paid for flaps and never will!

Yes prostitution is wrong :D

I guess it's just a question of upbringing!!

Integra Type R is one of the best handling front wheel drive cars and it will out handle the Civic Type R and it should be alot quicker as the New teggy is 220bhp... Yum Yum...

The newly designed Civic will be extremely light...somewhere near the 1000kgs margin, and they're keeping the same engine...so...1000kgs and 200bhp....there's the power to weight ratio already...

1000kgs? Nah, nearer 1150 IMHO

I test drove a type R civic at my local Honda dealer and by hell it shifts when you hit that vtec spot (5000rpm) but I think if you caught one in the wrong gear (there are six) a vrs would embarras one :D I pored over the performance figures for both cars before I made my decision and yes on paper the Honda is faster to 60 but the other figures showed in the real world not much in them ,the dealer wanted an extra

Dont get me wrong' date=' I think they are lovely motors (apart from the 'old hat' lexus style rear light clusters) but he wants to chop it in for???????....................a Skoda Fabia vRS.[/quote']

let me know if he wants to swap ;)

Andy

I've never even been close to parity with one - I think you need a good remap and to lose some weight (yes maybe the driver) to have much of a chance, especially with the Octavia's terrible traction off the line, if we're talking traffic lights.

I enjoy showing my rear bumper to type R's, trouble is they get so upset by it and then drive stupid to get past :thumbdwn:

But i have this motto - clean set of heels once and then let them get on with it! Already proved my point :D

I have both CTR and Fabia vRS.

To compare a modded vRS against a Standard Type R isnt really fair!

Compair a Hondata KPro tuned CTR againt a mapped Octy and itll show you its *** :D

Each have there good and bad points and IMO the CTR is a great car at a very good price. Anyone who complains that they are noisy or you have to rev them to get them going really doesnt understand the Type R's or the iVTEC system and should go back to a FI car.

Unfortunataly the UKDM cars dont get the LSD so dont handle as well as the JDM but for

Honda still maintain they've never had a VTEC unit failure - best you don't tell my workmate who's had **2** CTR engines blow up on him.

No VTEC failure my a$$!

He's obviously a rough ba$tard then, or doesn't like using oil. I had my CTR for 3 years and did over 100,000 miles in it. It had plenty of hammer, but was well maintained at the same time and it never missed a beat...

Too right, the only real reports of engine failure have been either letting the oil run way too low or stupid gear changes ie 5th too 2nd!

I'd agree with that too, those engines are VERY strong and take those high revs without any problems whatsoever if maintained properly.
