How fast is a Type R Civic?

Featured Replies

hi all,

ive never driven one of these cars and i know performance isnt all about 0-60 times and top speed.

i was wondering how fast these cars are in real life driving. how would the compare with the likes of a remapped octavia vRS.

handling seems impressive too.

They are very quick cars.

0-60 in about 6.4 seconds, 0-100 in about 16 seconds, and 146 mph top speed. 30-70 is done in about 6 seconds, and i even think they do 50-70 in 7.5 in 5th.

I like them - if I didn't need the boot space I'd have one in preference to the Octy.

As for are they quick, yes - but depends on the driver.

they remind me of very stretched smart cars lol

they are a nice car, but dont forget you need to rev the nuts off it to make it go as most of the performance is after the v-tec gubbins has done its stuff so make that fast and noisy.

how fast are they in a straight line compared with a mapped octy vRS?

I reckon a well driven CTR would equal if not better a well driven remapped Octy. Especially if there were any corners involved.

My Interga type R could murder just about anything on the road and the CTR is esentially a slightly tame version of the ITR.

Slightly slower, but they handle better :D

They're flippin' noisy, but extra quick.

There's a running battle between two guys in our office. One has a CTR, the other a Clio 182.

The Clio, predictably, spends most of it's time in the garage, but it's slightly quicker when it can be persuaded to start.

I like them - lovely racing seats and once you get used to the gearstick position (very BTCC ;)) it's an excellent driving position :D Shame you had to pay for air con, etc - do you still have to?

Oh, and the Racing Teg Type-R is something else -

I think its standard on the late ones.

They handle quite nice due to independant rear suspension, but they have to be taken to at least 7K rpm to extract decent performance.

and they're still

Car mag tested a CTR against a Pug 206 180 on normal british A & B roads and reckoned the Pug's more supple suspension more than made up for the 20bhp power deficit.

On that comparison I actually prefer to look of the Pug, espeically when you consider the mini-MPV look of a CTR from the front.

Having actually driven one, I can confirm (numbers aside) that unless abused they're not much cop.

...However, when driven hard (you need a track to really appreciate) they are one of the best cars (in terms of enjoyment) I've ever driven.

If you can afford a second car, buy one. If you can't, don't.

My GF owns one and i have driven and cough raced cough it...

IMO to drive they are very descptive....they dont 'feel' quick but your soon going too fast... and compaired to my remapped octy in side by side dual carrideg way late on a sunday night drag.. we were both thrashing the balls of the two cars and nither of us pulled away this is from about 40 to 70ish...which i was very happy with as the power to weight the CTR is better and on paper better all round....

Very fast cars. Faster than MCSWs. They hit max power and torque pretty late but then it's gone. They murder Pug GTis and Golf GTis. Octavia vRS has no chance against it in stock I would think. Plenty of them here, have never even thought of taking on one in a straight, I fear the gruesome royal raping it would give me.

Not according to the roadtest figures in some magazine (which i cant remember maybe someone here has seen it and can) which compared it with the MCSW and Golf GTI. The Cooper S Works was the faster car by a fair margin, doing 30-70 in 5.5 seconds.

I came across one of the new Integra Type-R's about 2 weeks ago, the one they refuse to import to the uk :( -boo as it's a very very nice looking car!

Pic here

I wouldn't say i left it for dead but i started from behind and was able to get past and pull a gap of a few car lengths. The guy pulled up along side at the next set of lights grinning like mad saying "thats pretty fast for a skoda!" :D

Friend of mine has a 54 plate Civic Type R and he hates it. Since picking it up new in sept 04 (same time as my furb Vrs) it has been into the dealership approx 13 times for various engine problems. At the moment it is going through it's 'engine stalling whilst in gear' stage and it frightens the sh!t out of him. Honda UK have appointed some technical bod to carry out a full assessment, although this has been done before and they reckon they have found nothing.

Apart from that he doesn't like it, seats too uncomfortable, engine far too noisy and he says to get it going you have to rev the **** out of it. Well, thats all well and good if there were no cars on our roads and you could take it up to 5000 rpm in gear but he reckons just when the vtec starts to go you hit traffic/roundabout/junction/lights.

Dont get me wrong, I think they are lovely motors (apart from the 'old hat' lexus style rear light clusters) but he wants to chop it in for???????....................a Skoda Fabia vRS.

Honda still maintain they've never had a VTEC unit failure - best you don't tell my workmate who's had **2** CTR engines blow up on him.

No VTEC failure my a$$!

I think they actually mean the VTEC mechanism rather than the engine itself.

In standard for I got nailed by a type-r, once induction kit and remap had been done, beat one neck and neck with a few others. one thing to remember though, the owners do have huge egos so nail one whenever you get the chance!
