Dropping the idle is a quick fix , but seriously, Google it, idle wobble and timing pd engine. bet yours is way out. its not the 1st time I've corrected wobble with cam timing. not by timing marks, but by tolerances on vagcom. Certainly should not be considered 'normal effect', may not be dangerous but will be harming Mpg and power.

What did the garage say they did to fix it? 

sounds to me they just dropped the idle to get it away from the level where it wnobles a lot it's not a fix it's just a patch. if that is what they did of course.

would be interested to know myself because I think if you check the timing you would be surprised

Well when it went back in again they ran some diagnostics and said that Injector 2 were very high and injector 4 were just over so they thought it were an injector issue. They then got the parts but couldn't fit them until the warranty company said it was OK but with it being nearly £1000 for both injectors they wanted Skodas input on it firstly. 

 

What I have gathered is they communicated with Skoda to alter what the injector were spraying etc and changed the timing. They had it a few days as they had to warm the car up, check then let it cool and keep doing this to ensure all the readings were correct after the work, so the end result no no injectors just a change to the injectors and timing.

 

I know something has been done other than just lowering the idle because previously lowering the idle made the car worse so I am guessing they raised it at some point during all the visits I have had... Not to mention I now have a complaint open with Skoda HQ so they are having to report back in to them with what is going on.

 

Check out my previous threads... Its been on-going for a year now. The posts cover what has been replaced etc trying to eliminate the issue.

About 5 months ago I took the car to a place called Feather Diesel who also confirmed the running of the car is incorrect who are diesel specialists. See the report attached.

just over 750 bud.

you should be around 860 rpm..

 

But essentially as i mentioned the cam timing was probably the critical wobble issue fix. Injector balancing was a good find though. The injectors on these almost NEVER need replaced.

So how do you check for injector balance ?

i forget which measuring block it is in vagcom, but you can see all 4 injectors and real time injection rate, and its relation to the tolerances, ie see if they are within spec. If they are off, more involved software is needed to correct it

Skoda dealership workshop techies are the worst i have ever encountered haha. some of the most incompetant bunch of numptys i have ever seen! Saw one engine pack in after a service, as the mechanic neglected to refill with oil
i have never done this.
Also was told by a skoda tech that my turbo needed replaced after getting positive deviation fault code. got second opinion same response.
cleaned turbo - perfect for the following 200k miles.

So all in all the moral of the story is- not all skoda dealerships have a clue
 

I clarify, not all of them are bad.

860 rmp is not the correct idle speed as it is variable and can be adjusted. As for quantity of injection it is done by measuring needle lift with a DTI gauge and adjusting it by movement of the camshaft and not by software. If your not sure don't post these spurious comments.

 

Correct cam timing is obtained by measuring specified lift (usually 1.0 mm) with a DTI and clocking the cam using the slotted drive sprocket while the crank is locked.

 

The unit injectors are electronically controlled and cannot be adjusted other than by remapping. It is the cam which provides the fuel delivery pressure and the ECU which dictates the when and how much part.

 

Using a DTI is the only guaranteed accurate way to statically set the cam timing correctly after a belt or gasket change because the cam position sensor doesn't have the dynamic resolution, hence the +/- 3 degrees.

 

So you're nearly right but please stop upsetting the locals since that's my job  :kiss:

Had the same **** in my 2011 Octavia 2,0 TDI. Made a real knocking sound when running on idle. Engine shaking and the exhaust rattled when dsg shiftet to lower gears. After a check at the local Skoda garage they found out that the double mass flywheel needed replacement. After repairs it was ok again.

i can say... i can replicate this in the sdi..

 

The end result will be timing and fueling.

 

Its out by alittle.
