Coolant temp sensor

Featured Replies

I have a 2001 Octavia SDI that requires the coolant temp sensor to be replaced according to VAG-COM.

I am however a little confused now as to which sensor it is I am to replace, after speaking to the parts guy at Skoda he was pointing me towards a 2-pin sensor that is connected to the radiator, while it appeared ETKA was reporting another option closer to the engine head known as the "dual temperature sensor", this being a 4-pin version.

Can someone please guide me as to which coolant temp sensor it is that I need, how many pins it has, and where it is located on my model?  If possible, a link to the correct one?

The fault given is as below:

17664 -  Engine Coolant Temp Sensor (G62): Open or Short to Plus

Thanks a lot chaps.

It's the dual sensor that you need.

It's pretty easy to change - slide the plastic clip out, pull the old one out, push the new one in.

Make sure the O-ring is sitting right - I managed to twist mine and the first time the car got hot the engine bay was sprayed with coolant - doh!

Thanks for the replies guys :)

I've read through the guides thoroughly and have a pretty good idea of how to do it.

One question though, I understand the process will only lose a little coolant if performed properly (and removing pressure from the coolant reservoir and refitting), however would it be a safe bet to "burp" the coolant system after?  Or is it a case that with such an insignificant amount lost, and the way its lost - its unlikely to introduce any additional air into the system?

No need, unless you end up draining half your fluid out through the CTS hole!
