Fabia VRS to Honda Civic Type-R swap

Featured Replies

I know there are a few out there who have done it but was it worthwhile.

I love my Fabia to bits but have been "offered" a CTR for a price low enough to make me interested.

I appreciate that the two cars are polar opposites in character but there is still something that makes me think i want to do it.

Although if asked what that "something" is i honestly don't know!

Thoughts please....

You boy racer, you :D

I do have a horrible fear that i'll start wearing baseball caps backwards and telling people that "my VTEC kicked in yo" but i dunno i'm still tempted

Hugely put off by the thought of not getting 50+ average mpg and of being shafted by the taxman i still dunno though....

Do it, do it, do it, do it, do it, do it!

Had a Type-R and always regretted selling

As mentioned.

Fuel and running costs ?

A friend has one and they're great cars but as you say poles apart in how they deliver performance.

The Honda needs to be worked hard all the time to deliver the VRS doesn't. You have to be in the mood to get the best from the Honda. Can get tiresome on long trips. Ultimately more satisfying than the VRS and also very reliable. It would be good if you could have both?

The most important thing to factor in is..............................................you won't be allowed on the Briskoda Castle Combe sessions with a Honda. :giggle:

And it's Japanese, and we'll never talk to you again :P

 you'll have to take your chances with the other Senna wannabees and Gran Tourismo Warriors (other car racing games are available) :giggle:

They're chalk and cheese pastyboy, for track work, high days and holidays the CTR is more fun, for the other 350 days a year the Fab is the better bet.

If you're a two-car family then why not have both, get rid of the 'other' car instead.

I'd LOVE a type-r. An ek9 preferably, but I do like ep3s.

No turbo to explode. No dual mass to worry about. Far superior handling and a MUCH better noise.

I have on the sly been looking for an EG VTI (the 170bhp one) as surely being 20 years old they'd be dirt cheap by now; but i think they are all dead or rust piles

Having looked at the maths I just don't think i can justify it financially.

Compare the market says about the same to insure a stadnard Type R as my modified Fabia

But Parkers says a doubling in Road Tax and a halving in MPG

99% of my time in a car is spent sat in traffic commuting to and from work so a Type R seems wholely pointless.

look out for a anyone want to buy a cheap Type R thread coming up soon :D

Throw the CTR details up Cliff, have a friend who might be interested :)

Speak to Joshh, he's recently done the exact same thing :)

Yeah if it turns into a true sale i'll bang it up.

At the moment it's just my other half's boss who refused a part-ex offer (< £1000) when he bought a new used A4 trying to decide what to do.

All I know is it's a Y reg so one of the very first ones but has only done 67,000 miles

Not sure what colour it is or if it's got AC or not.

He's on holiday this week but try to get some more info out of him in due course

Ive done a circle cliff, ive come back to a fabia purely because of running costs. They are great fun to drive, you can go into every corner with alot of confidence whereas with the fabia its like a boat. Tax is horrendous and the mpg aint the best (does have a 6 speed box which does help a little). Unless your like me and like driving like you stole it then stick to the fabia which is easier for overtaking. Youve really got to give the type r's some stick lol. great fun though!!

not my old one i hope lol

I recently sold my EP3 type R to a chap from gloucester

ahh no mine was an EP3 52 plate

brilliant car, very well made and very reliable. very solid engine. lots of positives over my newer vrs I replaced it with

And it's Japanese, and we'll never talk to you again :p

I agree.
