Yep, finally getting closer to making the swap.

I have two possible options. Given all the previous postings and searching,  I am happy to get a 60ps and possibly alter it later if needs be, be that a remap or a blower/swap.

So it's between, both in 3dr, the elegance greentech and a sport.

I'm not a fan of the central strip on the sport...

So considering a sport or elegance, both are March'13 reg, and within £500 of each other.

What can't be done retrospectively to a sport over an elegance or vice versa easily, e.g. bluetooth/ipod etc. I'm making the assumption based on other posts atm that the base engine/trans/suspension is nigh on the same, barring stop start.

I was planning on getting a second set of wheels for winter tyres and then some good grippy lightweight boots for summer. I may as well exploit the handling as I'm not getting much else to play with. Wonder how well it would grip on a set of 888's :)

Any thoughts?

well this is ours, an original press car, ..

its based on a 60 se , (I can confirm after driving both that the is negligable difference between the engines) and has all the options, big black 15 inch wheels (we have some conti winters we swop on the same alloys every 6 months) white with black stripe kit (this is not available in the sport, its a red stripe on the white) big sunroof, PID, upgraded stereo , citysafe, ect ect.. fully loaded :) I prefere it to the sport as it has alot of options the sport doesn't come with, the only thing I would like is the leather pack for the interior......

guess I'm saying if i was you, I'd go for elegance and spec it up to suit! :)

as for the handling, I think it had almost as much grip as my vRS considering how light it is , with a wheel at each corner, and 185/55/15 tyres, if you add some 888's into that , it would probably be awsome! typical short wheelbase problems though, make it "twitchy" at the limit, but its a big limit!

enjoy colin, and was nice to meet you at the national meet for the first time after all my years on here! lol... enjoy the car and keep us posted with pics ect when you get it :)

Whilst I was resting the Rover for a few minutes I thought I'd have a play with one of the Citigos that Skoda had lent us to use at an Autosolo demonstration at Silverstone in July. I drove it once round the course and then parked it up as I was so unimpressed with it. I attacked the course just as I had been with the Rover and all that happened was it wallowed about and then crashed into cone 14 making me look like a plum.

it has alot to live up to with the briskrover though mate ;) and they normally come with little wheels and narrow "eco" tyres!

If you don't like the stripe on the Sport then have it removed :-D I had mine removed before pickup......some don't like it but I love it :-D

Certainly a good choice to be making Colin. There are threads aplenty on here musing all things Citigo, but I'm sure you already know that

Personally, I haven't read anything to dispute that there is precious little performance difference between the two engines. Seems to me that the 75ps is more for the greentech side of things, and coupled with (allegedly) longer gearing. A remap is interesting, but the cost for an extra 15-20bhp is prohibitive - but I guess it's where that extra power lies in the revband. A Briskodian has yet to take the plunge (and void warranty) to offer any realistic advice yet I think.

For me, stripes aside, it's a toss-up between the (IMO excellent) exterior styling add-ons of the sport, against the heated seats, mirrors and creature comforts of the elegance. No stop-start option on a UK sport either. The unique interior trim additions, unique seats, gearlever and red stitched leather really make the cabin of the Sport a special little place to be imo.

The "lowered suspension" on the sport is identical to the greentech 15mm lowering btw.

Bluetooth is standard via the PID on Elegance and Sport - iPod connection via 3.5mm jack (not sure about fitting VAG multimedia interface.

I've not played around with tyres yet, but with the standard performance on offer I'm not sure the expense of the 888s is necessary. You can happily push the car to its cornering limits in safety, and usually at legal speeds with contis that come as standard.

Looking forward to hearing more of any projects you'll have on the go though - Blowers - sounds like a hoot!!

the citigo is a normally aspirated (not turbo) so the mapping options are limited, hence they only appear to be able to a 5-10bhp to the 75ps model

appeared to have a big panel air filter so no option for really improving airflow into the engine to allow more fuel to be injected

Personally I would recommend the 5 door over the 3 door -it's just so much more practical -for parking spaces and luggage. I also happen to think it looks better.

doors are very long on 3 door, which seems to make the seat belts hard to reach as they a re further back,

you also need more space to open the doors in a car park with the 3 door

Thanks guys. The 888 and blower comments were a little tongue in cheek. I'd done a little digging on the up gt to borrow some possible ideas.

The swap is to save money, not blow it on playing too much.

3 v 5 will see, I can still touch my toes so hopefully not to bad to get a seat belt on. I'll either use this in minivan mode or normal. Minivan being the rear seats down. One attraction of privacy glass.

Will head out tomorrow to compare in the metal. I'm also looking now at ex demonstrators, bit of a glut of six mth old ones to pick from. Ned to think very hard if going new is worth it. 0% and servicing versus vat depreciation etc.

Your only a few miles from me, so anytime you want a look/drive of my Sport Colin, your more than welcome

Must factor in new-car-smell also!

so colin

whats the verdict?

elegance or sport? and new or ex demo?

most important what colour ?

Didn't make it. Swmbo had other plans in the end. It's my choice, but need her input or there be trouble down the road...

My offer still stands fella

Just give me a shout

5 door is so much more practical - and the doors are a lot lighter as well.  Its a surprisingly long way back for the seatbelt in the 3 door.

As for engine differences; identical maps upto somewhere north of 4000rpm.  60PS runs out of puff shortly after that, but the 75 pulls all the way meaning you don't need to change up in some circumstances.  Its a bit of a loading for what is just a map change as I also believe there is no difference otherwise but MINI got away with it for a long time (ONE to COOPER).

The rest is the one thing that no-one can really advise you on - personal choice of the appearance.  My wife liked the idea of the Sport until she saw the interior and still prefers her Elegance, the heated seats especially.

why pay for heated seats, just need a big tin of chilli beans the night before cold weather and the rest I don't need to say

will head over to the naughty corner now :)

Well i went for the Citigo Sport in Red with Black Stripes.Looks very good i think:)

I love the interior its a great place to be compared to my Octavia.I was very suprsied at how it pulls and accelerates with 3 people in the car.I did show it  a long steep hill and it took it very well without to much gasping.i was so impressed i bought it :)

Went to the local place today. Regrettably the sport they had had just sold... Anyhow I took a 60ps SE greentech out and was actually surprised. It's not a pocket rocket, but it's more than capable and the cornering whilst legal was still impressive. I'd not do it much faster in the Superb, ok maybe I would... but a 1k excess on a demonstrator reels me in a bit.

I can imagine 2+ up with a boot full it would show, but thats not what this is about.

So observations from the above comments taken, we did note the doors and seatbelts, but both felt it was manageable at our years :) No 5 door to compare against either.

Only downer was the trade in value, taken a bit of a knock for some reason, makes the maths and feasibility swap about a bit. That said, it's still in 3 years time going to have saved money.

So not's it's decision time, SE would be fine, add the bits on I care for and it's very very close to the sport prices. The only thing I couldn't do, would be the interior e.g. seats, but things like sunset privacy glass I could make stronger, pros and cons... Must admit I've not poured over specs much, less so as the online tool is dire, the brochure isn't a huge amount more help.  Must do something about that :)

I can skip heated seats, although I do use them a lot, there are ciggy lighter powered alternatives. I did read the elegance spec as chrome chrome and a bit more chrome...

So I do believe it's time to find a citigo sport, or se greentech in yellow and make a yellow sport ;) Or convince myself to buy one from new... but at over 10k it feels like a lot. Never really brought a car on spreadsheet forward economics before...

Yellow Sport would be awesome

Ive been trying to get Auric Goldfinger to do it to his

My Pre Reg Sport was under 9k with 5 miles on clock

Maybe thats something you could consider when looking at cost comparisons with Greentech models

As been said before the 60PS and 75PS engines are pretty similar performance wise and both offer great fun driving at legal speeds

Whichever you go for, you wont be disappointed

one thing I would suggest if you get the 3 door is

Seat memory function for easy entry

£50.00

wish could of got it on ours, means the seat goes back to where it was when you let a passenger in / out of the rear, with ours seat goes back goes back then you have to move the seat to where you want it

Yes that is a tad annoying everytime.

Sent from my iPhone 5 using Tapatalk.

I wonder if this could be retrofitted?

Why not just move the passenger seat to let people in and out,and never move the drivers seat?

Most times the passenger side will be next to the kerb anyway,so it will be safer as well.

  • 3 weeks later...

Posting as my psuedo alias while testing.

Anyhow it's done. Superb going in, citigo coming out.

In the end despite wanting to order a new car; never have had one, nor will now, with the build / estimated delivery now of next year it's daft.

So I've opted for a low mileage 3k, elegance 75 around 8k. Again, I think I wanted a sport, but actually wasn't that fussed either way, se and above was enough. I'm bound to knock the sporty bits off with rocks and kerbs.

So red elegance manual, sunset glass in theory, will see when it turns up.

So now to adjust to the lack of length, power and traction, ideal timing for autumn.
