Clutch has started slipping 5th and 6th?

Featured Replies

Hi guys I was a long drive back from Trax yesterday , after about 3 hours of driving I put my down In 6th at 60mph to overtake a wagon and the clutch slipped revs went up etc. I let off the gas as soon as I realised. Then tested it in 5 and the same happened. But not any other gear. Just wondered if it might have something to do with the clutch being so hot because of the long drive. And also when should I get it replaced?

This has just started to happen to mine after driving back from Cumbria the other day, mines 4th gear upwards its slipping... guessing it will be because original clutch n dmf on mine and recently had it remapped.

is yours mapped?

I wouldn't have put my foot down at 60, that's about 1700rpm IIRC which is too low down IMO to boot it in that gear. Drop a gear next time ;)

I would guess your clutch is on it's way and would need to be replaced (and could be a symptom of you driving habbits if what you describe above is normal?!) When?? As soon as you can afford, unless you can put up with it?!?

I could be wrong :giggle:

Admittedly putting my foot down to over take was pretty stupid cause I didn't leave enough contact. But needless to say I've learnt my lesson. I really can't afford to get it replaced as of yet so will driving the car steady ( normal ) let it last a while? Oh and what is dmf?

Mine has been doing for 3 years and is still working fine if I drive around it and use the revs :)

And yes the car is remapped

Dmf is dual mass flywheel

this happened to mine after i had a remap only in 5th and 6th though, the original clutch had done just over 100,000, took it to my local garage I trust, good lads wouldnt rip me off. they had to replace clutch and dmf, set me back nearly £800.00 if I remember rightly, pulls like a train in these gears now but i always try and drop a gear when booting it

It is worse when the clutch is warm, but a healthy clutch won't slip even at high temps in any gear etc

always more fun to drop a gear...or 2   lol.
