Previous Fabia owner

Featured Replies

I bought a new X reg Fabia a few years ago and am now thinking about getting a Fabia vRS. One big problem with the previous Fabia was a blown cylinder head gasket which was fixed under warranty. How likely is this if I get a vRS? What are service charges like? My present car is a Getz 1.3 gsi which has free servicing for 3 years so should i try to sell it before the final service in July next year? The vRS seems a great car and I want a bit of fun before I get too old for insurance increases (62!) 2 decades ago I had a black Saab 99 turbo and it was terrific!

Hi and welcome

Hi,

Like you I moved from an early Fabia to a vRS. Never had any head gasket problems though (it was a TDI). The brakes and suspension of a vRS are both different from other Fabias, and take a little while to bed in, so don't be alarmed when you get the car.

One of the major cost components of a service is the oil - the PD engine in a vRS needs a particular class of oil; oilman on this forum can supply it cheaper than your dealer.

Servicing rates vary between dealers, but the going rate seems to be about

Wow, you're both up there huh? Bryand I thought you were uor age or something basing it on those lexus lights you have on your ride :D

My pops is 60, maybe I should get him to join the site (even though he drives a beemer) and then you can make more same-age friends :D

I'm going to be having a discussion about my 10k service as it cost me 180.02 inc VAT ;) But yeah that SHOULD be the right price.

On the positive side - not had any trouble, very useful car. Can go fast, can go economical, and within reason, can do both at the same time ;)

No need to worry about the vRS engine. Its a bullet proof VAG TDi. The issue with the old 1.4 8v Fabia is it was derived from an old Skoda engine as seen in the Estelle, Favorit and Felicia, and they were all prone to coolant/head gasket problems...

As are all vag 1.4's....i should know I have owned two of the damn things and wont ever again.

welcome to another Scotsman, i'd say get yourself a Fabia vRS, you wont regret it ;) insurance,MPG,torque its got the things i need anyway, all it lacks is a bit of boot space, but i've no kids yet so its not an issue, enough room for the shopping, but not hers too. :)

welcome to the forums, Just dont ask whats better, octy or fabia

:sofahide:

Where about in gods land are you from?

I stay in Largs, home of the Largs Viking Festival! I appreciate all the advice and am thinking of a new Fabia vRS in springtime when I will have some cash to put towards it. The only other one I fancied was the Hyundai coupe, second hand of course, but access for my father would have been a problem. No problems with my old Fabia so it seems no contest!
