Citroen Saxo VTS

Featured Replies

if you crash your gona die! really bad crash test results and came 100 in top 100 cars. i used to have a vtr.

Beeftech, the valver is defo the best Corrado for reliability etc imho. Absolutely nothing went wrong on my two valvers. In comparison, my G60 and VR6's cost me a small fortune to maintain. They're all pretty old now, so replacement of parts is pretty constant. I wouldn't use one for a daily driver anymore- that's why I've sold my VR :-( Really missing it, but couldn't afford to keep it as a second car.

i thought u were keeping the mk2:confused:

I am.

I'm living in a dream world frankly. I've decided i dont want more debt, but if i do get more debt, i might as well spend it doing this car up, instead of getting something more expensive and risking having to fork out for that every week as well. I can see it going out of control money wise.

So I doubt i'll be getting anything.

Oh well...

Unfortunately the VTS is a bit of a **** mobile, but if you can live with that then it's quick (to 100 then it's slow, but how fast do you want to go?) and cheap to insure, you'll also have the local 17 year old barry boys and their girlfriends with a kid loving you, all dressed in burberry aswell.

Handling I guess is spot on and shout be relatively cheap to run, insurance is group 13 however.

If your planning tuning it, I could recommend several web sites which can easily take it to 150-160 bhp for 1k and then will trounce most cars (lotus elise's, clio 182, ctr, lcr etc) with it's power to weight ratio.

the VTS is good, bulletproof engine (mine went up to 150,000 with no faults, never opened the bonnet, just had it dealer serviced..) however g/box can be dodgy, I killed a gearbox in 40,000 miles... put it in neutral, engine running, clutch down and listen, then lift the clutch up (still in netrual) and listen, if the noise changes, walk away, it'll self destruct in a few thousand miles..! (

Hope you have small feet if you go for the saxo, the pedals are so small and close together its almost unreal, theres no way i could drive it and im only size ten.

My step son was looking to buy a VTR or VTS not long ago and after test driving loads i found there was not much difference in terms of performance, he went for the VTR in the end, Treg

Just to open the debate up a little, what about a Cliosport 172? Not had one myself, but know the reputation to be good as a driver's car. Not sure about reliability though?

Just had a check on Trader and near me (Manchester) there were a few 2000/2001 cars with around the 60k mark for between 4-5k.

Worth considering?

Thanks for the suggestion, but as I say the Golf is staying, I dont want another (large) debt hanging over me at this point... i'll get the golf working and then i may consider tinkering with it to try and hit the 130 bhp mark :)

You probably made the best decision. I have had an array of Citroen's over the years, and they are a bit temperamental to say the least. I had a brand new Xsara Vtr in 2001 and it was plagued with faults and the dealer had it more than I did.

Not little faults either...new engine at 15k, thats just for starters. I used to love citroens, they were a bit different, comfy, if you got the right versions, fast too.

Now they are unreliable (thats a fact) dealer service is non existant, parts are expensive, and they fall apart when you look at them.

I can see you are keeping your current car now, but just for curiosities sake, go drive a saxo. It might be nippy, it might handle, but if you can get comfy behind the wheel, i'll buy you a pint. Like someone else said, the pedals are offset to the left and very close together. You would end up with a twisted spine if you did some big mileage in it.

Just my opinion.

I've already driven a Saxo (not a VTS) and you are right, its not very comfortable. My chief complaints were just as you say, pedals were not quite where i expect them to be and too close together (even for my mere size 8 feet).

After owning two of the buggers all I can say is dont! Mine suffered from gearbox problems, brake problems, electics, trim issues, the list goes on.

BUT, when it did work on the rare day here and there it was a hoot to drive!

If you go for one you will probably kill a set on pads and front tyres within 12k. Parts are here and there at the local scrappy.

And as someone else had said I really wouldn't want to be in one if it crashed. I've seen a alot that are a right mess.

Vote here for the Honda Civic, very nice to drive and my mate sacred me many times in his!

what about a fiat bravo hgt, very nice car and comes with aircon, quite bad depreciation so you should be able to pick one up dirt cheap!
