Octavia VRs - front speaker grille badges - 'sound system'

Featured Replies

When I bought my Mk. 1 Octy, I loved (and still do) everything about it. Apart, that is, from the little silver badges on the front speaker grilles - which say 'sound system.'

I found these to be a bit rubbish. They look silly, state the bleedin' obvious, and contribute nothing to the interior trim at all.

I did think about prising them out, and either painting them or wrapping them in vinyl, or something. But, as is typical, I never got round to it.

I also thought that just prising them out would leave an obvious recess that would look equally rubbish too, so I didn't do that either.

Anyway, last week I removed a door card, and with all the flapping about I caused, one of these badges just dropped out.

Behold - the solution presented itself!

Behind the badges, there is a logo moulded into the plastic itself - which just says 'Skoda Auto.'

Which looks much better in my opinion. So obviously I prised the one from the other side. I now have a more tasteful modification inside my car, which invloves nothing more than the removal of the said horrific and tasteless badges themselves.

I hope this post helps other owners, whom also find them as offensive as I did. The solution is beautifully simple

Don't have those on mine...

My car is special, I have it on 1 side and not the other :D

I too have the upgraded sound system

I too have the upgraded sound system

I'm not sure these badges mean upgraded sound system. Mine has them but I'm pretty sure my speakers don't sound as good as those in Golfs & Boras of a similar age.

Its a light hearted joke.

I thibk its a bit like the reae shelf speaker covers. In the boot there is some carpet things covering the underside.

51 plate cars and before, tgheones ide say are the original vRS. Better made had quite a few bits to make them more "pleasing".

I have had both my 05 reg one and a 51 plate one and tbh the 51 plate was tge nicer car for quietness and parts that later ones seemed to lack to save money. Dont think skoda expected them to take off like they did.

One of my badges dropped off in 2007. Pulled the other one off and never looked back.

Changed my life.

Pulling off scabs too early is less satisfying.

I got the upgraded ones with extra broke bits and added ****e and muck.

AFAIK In the superb you only het the label "sound system" in a car with the upgraded sound system. (separate amp, extra speakers)

The badge is the length of the speaker and underneath it and doesn't look like it pops off.

Totally agree that it is the stupidest thing to have labelled. mc donalds influence?

I agree with Billy my 52 plate vrs had these stickers and seemed better built than my 04 plate.

Lol I thibk skoda made a certain amount for initial release and tgey were made properly. Rest all were made quick and with a few things left off to save money.

My 05 plate vrs speaker covers are blank like in David 8's photo.

My 04 plate vRS has "Symphony" badges, I presume that the "Sound System" ones are the uprated or better quality ones, as an 04 plate Laurin & Klement I looked at had the "Sound System" badges.  The brochure from 2004 shows only the L&K version having the uprated speakers.

If those of you with "Sound System" speakers think that they're bad then you should listen to the lower specification Symphony speakers in mine.  They sound like the music is coming from inside a metal dustbin (one for the older ones of you there!)  The vRS has the worst stereo I have ever heard, it's worse than the one my first car had (and that was an Escort Bonus i.e. a Popular).  The strange thing is that the vRS's stereo is really loud and powerful for a factory stereo at 15 watts per channel RMS, it's just that it sounds so bloody awful!  I keep meaning to change it but I'd forgotten how much I like CD changers and I hardly listen to music these days, plus the speakers would need replacing too as they're garbage and I'm not spending hundreds on the damn thing when I've got a non-functioning rear wash wipe, front discs and pads that have seen better days and four tyres from a Chinese budget tyre retailer to sort out.  Still love the car though!

T'other half has my previous car, a 2009 Honda Jazz EX with integrated 30 watts per channel unit with iPod/iPhone/MP3/USB/B&Q/M&S and God knows what else capability.  It's made by Alpine and sounds superb.  It's amazing how audio is now such a priority for car manufacturers, rather than back when the vRS was designed (when I presume that they found the vRS a stereo from a skip.  In Czechoslovakia.  Outside a museum that was having a clear out of things that were too old).

As you say, it's the speakers that are pony, not the headunit really.

The frequency response is all over the place.. there's no bass, harsh mids and the highs actually hurt my ears. The tweeters are especially garbage.

I disagree, whilst the speakers are crap, the head unit has absolutely no punch to it whatsoever. It compresses to hell, and won't go any louder after a certain point, which just proves the compression. The amplifier runs out of steam far too soon.

The entire audio system is utterly pants.

Rest of car is ace though!
