Playing DVDs on Columbus

Featured Replies

Apparently the Columbus navigation upgrade can play DVDs (and other video formats) according to the manual.

Seems a bit dangerous? :)

As soon as you start moving, the video goes away so it's not dangerous.  The soundtrack continues.  Videos also play from files on USB stick, SD card, internal hard disk...

That makes sense.

And yes, 'tis me. :p

Not as snazzy as the Jaguar / Land Rover screen where the passenger can see the video but the driver see SatNav or whatever.

(You went to school with a colleague of mine - James C).

Does it has the AUX output so that the video can be continue in another monitor fitted in the rear?

I was wondering that. Although, the bucket seats on the vRS will make fitting a headrest DVD rather more challenging!

I have been looking as this is something I am thinking of doing.

If the Columbus is the equivalent of the VW RNS510/MFD3 VerB, then you can get a AV out cable that plugs in the back (you can also get DVB-T tuners). They are not cheap, and I haven't found any available in the UK, but a quick google should find what them from mainline Europe.

Ch.   Grab yourself an Octy 3 diesel - probably more economical than James' Prius  :giggle:

And btw, thanks for a great site Paul - helped me flash a lot of different android ROMs - I am about to direct someone there for rooting a G510.

There is something on youtube that shows you how to bypass the safety so you can have the picture while the car is moving but obviously not recommending that. handy for traffic jams though particularly the new nice big screen.

You should be aware that if you drive to France & selected €U countries having this enabled is illegal.  :o

And in the uk

I think it the same as the UK, and that it's only illegal if the driver can see a picture on the screen whilst the car is in motion. But knowing the French, they have changed that and just not told anybody yet.   :wonder:

oooh! A mobile phone hacking god amongst our midst! Welcome Paul... You'd be interested to know the Columbus runs an NVidia Tegra chip..  Not sure what the OS is, but I suspect some form of WinCE.

I saw that... With only a WVGA screen to push to even on Columbus I doubt it be short of graphics processing power. ;-)

Be nice if we could hook the display and touchscreen somehow...

There will be some kind of video out functionality on the Columbus I'd imagine.. Have you tried the new Columbus yet? It's a very nice system actually, but the pinch to zoom is a bit sketchy - perhaps a firmware update will sort it.

Stupid Tapatalk messing up my posts.

I haven't tried the new Columbus yet, I just think Bolero and Amundsen look 'too small' in the dash and Columbus really sets it off.
