I've had the vRS for a few week now but only noticed on my 280m round trip the other day that there's a fairly loud squeak somewhere behind the steering wheel/dash on almost every little sharp bump.

I've done the obvious while sitting in the car but nothing seems to move or creak or squeek on the dash or steering wheel in that area.

 

It sounds very much like a metal on metal or maybe chalk on blackboard sort of noise, so also tried adjusting the rake and reach to no avail.  

I'm sure I've eliminated everything on the outside of the dash now including the key/ignition barrel, each dash panel, the steering wheel and it's various adjustments, the instrument binnacle and it all feels solid.

 

Is there anything behind the dash in this area that might be a known issue or am I just going to have to take the dash out to investigate?

Heater support bracket needs a foam packing piece mod. The bracket is behind the centre vents, and a pig to get to. There's a thread on here somewhere on how to do it.

May be try greasing your bonnet hinges as I had a very similar sound. I just sprayed a little bit of copper slip on mine at each joint and it has completely stopped the noise. This could be one of many causes.

I know sounds can be difficult to locate, but it's definitely inside the cabin and seems to be to the right hand side of the steering wheel, perhaps behind the dash around the ignition lock area - I've seen the thread on the one behind the centre vents and I don't think it's that.

 

It's the weekend now so I should be able to have a good look tomorrow, if I find anything I'll post back.

 

 

I do have another squeak outside but that sounds like OSF brake area so might just be a trapped stone - but I will check the bonnet hinge now too!

I think I have exactly the same as you mention here in my car! mine does it if you see saw the steering whilst travelling too! if you find out what it is please tell us and I will do the same if I find out aswell,

I had a quick look yesterday and if you grab the dash (bottom right) and wiggle it there's a bit of play and a quieter version of the squeak.  I need to remove some pieces to investigate further but it's raining today hopefully it'll dry up later and I'll get a look.

Sorted mine this evening, removed the little square rubber block under the bonnet by the hinge and hey presto! Might be worth you giving it a go. I was sure the sound was behind the dash on the right hand side and would of never guessed to be that little rubber block!

Solved mine too. Removed the rubber blocks and the noise is gone.

I have cleaned mine up, soften the rubber and put them back in and all is good

didn't like the idea of leaving them off as the bonnet sinks a tiny bit and I'm a bit ocd with shut lines :/

I wonder can they be got new or would you have to get a complete hinge?

Very interesting, I am pretty sure it's inside the cabin - but I'd be daft not to check the above first!  Haven't looked today either, it hasn't stopped raining yet.

mine sounded like it was in the dash somewhere. when my mechanic heard it he was thinking the steering column

Still haven't had chance to look properly (summer, well and truly over) but after my dash wiggling and flexing the noise has gone!  It'll likely come back so I'm still going to investigate.

Mine has just started today the creak noise as described in the thread. It occurs when see sawing the steering or turning sharpishly. I noticed thehe noise over music, going round a tight roundabout on a harsh surface.

The car had a new steering rack or column last year when I bought it.

I don't know if this has anything to do with it but earlier today I moved over in the road for a police car to get through the traffic and at about 3 to 5mph hit the curb on medium lock as I saw infront a low curb and didn't see the full height curb which made abit of a cringey bang, as a pot hole does that you wish you'd seen in time.

The car has a month and a half left of it's used skoda warranty that it came with.

Please, HELP!

Tomorrow I'm going to see if I can find those rubber square things in the pictures above because it was said the sound was like a steering column issue but turned out to be the rubbers. I'll report back tomorrow. Any ideas though I'd appreciate guys
