Vrs Rally

Where in London?

If its on the West side, PM me and you can try mine for size.

How does mine compare to other cars? Well, I do plenty of trackdays (about 8,500 track miles in the last 2 years) and through fast stuff, ie over 110, I'd say its as quick if not quicker than an Evo (in the dry). The RS is incredibly well balanced through sweepers, and very aerodynamic (cD is 0.28 IIRC) so Evo would need a fair bit of power at 100+ to have a go. Scoobs up to and including Sti are a fair match (if you do a couple of mods). Drivetrain losses on mine were 7% which helps. What you do loose with the RS is the explosive off the line acceleration of the Evo or Scoob. Traction out of slower stuff can also be an issue.

All in all a very surprising car. For the money and with its easy tunability (not to mention that te mods are "cheap"), good economy and low running costs, its a winner.

The Skoda badge is a bonus :D

I've another comment if you're not able to take up the helpful driving offers from members above -

when I first test drove a used vRS after the (Tek2'd) Impreza, it felt very flat and undramatic. It handled and gripped well, but wasn't that quick.

I chose a 4x4 as I'd got used to being able to use all the power all the time ! As the engine is identical to the vRS (only detuned via the ECU) that made my mind up for remapping - BUT - I would not go back on track again until I'd brought the ride height and brakes to at least the standard of the vRS/Impreza.

Everything else is great and I'd recommend either model (4x4/vRS) Octavia to anyone over an equivalent spec Audi for the fun and stealth factors :)

Jon,

You forgot to mention that yours is just a 1.4 16v ;)

To try to clear uo some of the confusion surrounding the WRC edition, I contacted various sources (& checked on ETKA) to compile a list of the differences between the standard vRS & the WRC Edition.

The Wrc edition was released into the UK in Jan/Feb 2002 (most were registered in March on an 02 Plate). There were 100 built worldwide. There are approx 25 in the UK. They are all white with "Skoda 100" graphics. The WRC editions all had these fitted at the factory but there are a couple of cars which were destined for the police (standard vRS) which had these graphics added by dealers (& it shows).

The spec is as follows.

Xenon Lights (not available on vRS)

Heated Seats (Ditto)

ESP (Ditto)

Factory Fit Alarm (Cat 2)

White Paint

White Wheels (Pig to keep clean)

Numbered badge on dash (!?!)

Single Shot CD (& 6 disc Changer !)

The brakes are standard vRS, so is the suspension & engine map.

(This was confirmed by Skoda Technical)

I bought my car as an ex demo with under 5K on the clock for a fraction over

402.attach

Or the real McCoy like this

Just a by the by, talking with a taxi driver friend of mine last night, just changed out his Octavia for new, a few days ago, old car had 350.000 miles on clock with no major problems.

My local dealer in Finchley still has a WRC as a demo. Not sure how much they would let it go for. Could be worth a trip if your interested and in North London though. Le Car Centre in Ballards Lane.
