oil pressure fault

Featured Replies

been having problems with an oil pressure fault for some time now on my mk1 octavia vrs, fault will only show when oil is at normal operating temperature and the revs are between 1500 and 2000 rpm.  after some research i started by checking the strainer removed cleaned was as new no dirt what so ever so decided to change the oil pump as no fault was reading when plugged up. run the car again let it warm up as usual all seemed well untill pulling away from traffic lights hit the rev range and 'beep beep beep' oil light on again.  has anyone had this before as i am really lost as for what i should do next

cheers

Pressure sensor?

not sure after speaking to some mechanics today they said that if it was the sensor it would show when a code reader is attached so i'm not sure

If the sensor is giving a stupid reading or open circuit then yes, but if it is giving the wrong reading in the right range then not necessarily.

There are a few engine sensors that only cause the ECU to throw a code if they go open circuit or intermittent. I agree with trundlenut, a new oil pressure sensor would be my first thing to do.

Checking the wiring back from the sensor is probably the next step.

What colour is the light that comes on?

It's the red oil light

Are you sure it's pressure related?

Try swapping out the oil level sensor?

Red light is pressure rather than level.

This was the first thing OP checked. See his first post.

Although seems he cleaned it and not replaced it.

If it were me I would of replaced it.

Perhaps there is a blockage somewhere else. I would flush engine. Remove sump replace pick up pipe with new. Fill up with fully synthetic oil and fingers crossed.

That is my point buddy it is so uneconomical to clean a blocked oil strainer / pick up wen they are £10 and you ca't guarantee you have really cleaned all the crud out internally and then end up back with light on and a sump off job again..

Any slight blockage is enough to cause flow issues as the pipe and hoses are thin.

Do it once and do it right

Nice one, it pays to do it right..

Interesting to see the outcome of this keep informed of results
