MG Bargains...

Featured Replies

I was browsing my local motorpoint this morning and spotted a few MG 6 Magnette 1.8t in tse (I think) spec. New RRP is 21k and motorpoint are knocking out 63 plate with delivery mileage for £10990. That's 50% off retail and only 3 weeks old!! I took it for a drive and was genuinely impressed. The kit level is decent, it drives well and felt pretty solid!

Red is my favorite colour! The scary thing is that a fiesta is more expensive!

I then found a 57 plate Audi A8 elsewhere that is now my preferred choice for my car change coming up (hopefully!)

 Bargains  ?

Only ones I've ever seen are demo's and MG Owners club member who had big discounts so bought one.

I've got to admit I've only seen the ugly hatch version. These were saloons. They did have some 61 plate hatches for £7500 I think.

Was hoping for some ZT V8 action . . .

I have never seen one on the road but at that price i would have to have a serious think about it.

Define bargain! I'm sure its not massive further depreciation.

I live near to one of the (few) dealers and do see a few, although this has dried up lately I have to say.

The 4 door saloon is a really nice looking car especially in grey and the seats are good but sadly the rest of the interior is poor.

The only way it makes sense is if they are at the prices you have seen.

I've started noticing these around more in the last couple of weeks and i've seen a fair few MG3s.  I'd say £21k for the 6 is a little unrealistic given the cars you could be driving for the same money.

That is cheap and a lot of car for the money.......but I'm still not sure I'd buy one even at that price.

it is a lot of car for the money, but i wouldnt get one either. And ive never not had a Rover on my drive!

Some of the MGs seem specially designed to lose as much money as fast as possible. A thirsty petrol turbo in base spec trim in the UK!

Mid or top trim TDIs will hold their value better.

I saw one the other day, if it didn't have MG stickers on pretty much every panel I wouldn't have realised what it was.

At that price I still wouldn't buy an MG6. I'm not sure about future depreciation, cost and availability of parts.

Likewise. Preferably with a straight though exhaust . Real noise, not some horrible diesel rattle!

That is cheap. I drove one a year or two ago. I found it to be great fun to drive and a nice little hatchback. The poor quality interior was the biggest bugbear.

Avis bought 500 of them in 2012 but even so I can't say I've ever seen more than a handful.

I'd have one as a second car for the Mrs to drive with the baby. If they did an estate version I'd probably have one for myself too.

<Disclaimer... I'm the North Wales rap for the MGF Register, so may end up being described as one of "those" car fans lol>

The MG6 was stillborn when it was released in the UK, mainly because the diesel engine wasnt ready (and therefore there was only one engine available - 1.8T). Even the hardcore MG fans were holding back, but the silver lining was that we knew the car would be a bargain in 2-3yrs time (which they now are) plus it would be a stepping stone to later cars.

The newer MG3 actually isnt a bad car (£10K for a fully loaded spec fabia-sized car with cruise and DAB) and demand is outstripping supply in some colours, its just that the marketing is basically pants, and they arent going with the likes of Skoda / Kia / Suzuki with 0% deals and service plans to generate interest in that sector.

Ive only ever seen two on the roads, both local to me, could of even been the same car lol.

The mg6 looks like a jaguar xf and a honda civic both chucked there milk up an insignia and thats what was spawned.

I would have one though, its different.

The MG3 would certainly be in the running for SWMBOs next car, especially if there are some bargains to be had on a 12 month old one.

Want an MG bargain, try Autotrader for a ZT or ZTT 2.0 cdti.

Normally I would agree with this (since it is actually a BMW engine, and a great community) but they are holding onto their values (in comparison to the petrol versions) like crazy... You can get a mint 1.8T petrol for about £2K, diesel would be closer to £3.5K ...

I saw some pictures recently of a Chinese built MG TF which was absolutely rotten as the rustproofing is non existent.
