Normally I would agree with this (since it is actually a BMW engine, and a great community) but they are holding onto their values (in comparison to the petrol versions) like crazy... You can get a mint 1.8T petrol for about £2K, diesel would be closer to £3.5K ...

 

 

£3.5K would need to be low mileage mk2 in show condition for me, but I do see folk asking a lot for them. 

 

My mk1 is a 90K diesel, 1 owner with full service history and certainly A LOT cheaper, was advertised for 3 or 4 months and I was following it in the background until I made my move and stole it from a trader who lost money on it. Initially I was interested in it as a 2nd car for a few months while I was moving house as re-registering my vRS back in UK was taking ages and couldn't be used until complete.
