My VRS seems to run Hot / loud fan

Featured Replies

Hi All

Hope someone can help or clear up my doubts

I have a 57reg octavia vrs mk2

I often find that the fan comes all the time even when driving along at 50 plus mph. The temp gauge gets to half and it never goes above or below that no matter if the fan is on or how fast I am going. It also doesn't make a difference what the conditions are like outside. It doesn't matter if I have the air con / heater on or not.

If I am stationary for only a a few seconds on comes the fan.

It feels to me that maybe it is running Hot, anyone else noticed the same or should I worry. It has been serviced from new on time.

One additional thing I would mention is that the fan is pretty loud too.

Have you had your coolant changed at all?

Have something similar on my 2008 VRS which I have had from new. Recently started noticing the fan was on a lot and not just when the car was hot.

Took my car into the local skoda dealer for an MOT and had them look at why the fan was coming on so often.

I was told there is nothing wrong with mine, but there is a fan connector that can get wet causing the fan to be on when it shouldnt be, which may be a simlple fix on yours or maybe you have the same problem as me.

I was that I am hearing the fan come on because it always comes on when the AC is on, after a lengthy discussion I had little option but to leave it at that.

I will get the independant garage it get it serviced at to have a look next time it is in

I had a few days of my fan coming on every few minutes even hours after I had driven it.It happened again about a month later,i put it down to the rain as both times the roads were pretty bad and rgt (but there is a fan connector that can get wet causing the fan to be on when it shouldnt bean coming on)has just confirmed it for me so thank you.

If the car is midway through a DPF (Disesel Particulate Filter) regeneration then the exhaust system gets very hot and the car turns on the fans in an effort to bring the temperature down.

This is a timely thread.  My 62 plate CR170 has just started doing the same.  For the last couple of weeks, every few days the fan comes even on a short journey like this morning.  A very gentle 5 mile drive to work, parked up and turned the engine off, the fan was on and stayed on.  The engine hadn't even got to normal operating temperature.  I had to turn the engine back on and then immediately off again for the fan to turn off.  This is the 3rd or 4th time it's done this and the car hasn't driven in rain for weeks.  Any more thoughts?

I just noticed that the OP's vRS is petrol so ignore my post #5.

AlScott, it could however apply to your diesel, although the DPF shouldn't be attempting to regen until the engine is up to temperature so sounds like a different issue.

Same thing here, used to be set on half temp religiously but now goes from quarter to below half.........had read something in past about a second temp regulator, cheap to fix........ as well as the thermostat and here searching .... But saw your post first.

Cheers guys, I am due for a service soon and i take it to a garage where they are Skoda master technicians so i'm going to ask them for advice. i'll keep the post updated with anything they find

Alscot, before you switch off has the tickover gone up to around 1000rpm as thats one of the signs a regen is in progress- the car may smell hot too as the dpf runs hotter during a regen. If so it could be your car is trying to do repeat regens and when you switch it off you interupt it so it then tries again during the next trips depending on how far it got burning the soot off initially and so it goes on until it manages to finish a cycle. Doing one while the engine is still cold could be a sensor problem so might be worth contacting your dealer to discuss

if you look on skoda uks website in the owning a skada section theres a guide on cr dpfs in the faq bit on how they work and what to do
