Rusting / bubbling on the bottom of the skirts / doors / wheel arches

Just to add to this.

My car has rust on the sills, with kind of spots that have slightly exposed the metal work. Rust near the corners of the arches amongst (so similar to owners in here) a few other body work issues which a previous owner has caused.

It went in twice with the paint thickness detector used and pictures taken etc.

My friend took his VRS to the same dealer and got claim accepted for the sills, mine was pretty much the same but they have declined all of it despite a guy who left telling me they would cover the sills and arches.

Pretty ****ed off TBH knowing another guys car was accepted. I've got a good price off a bodyshop for everything so going down that route.

Its pretty tainted my view of VW/Skoda regarding paint so much so these sort of things annoy me and i'll likely buy another brand, i own a honda and it was 8 years older than my VRS (2000 vs 2005) and rust only started to appear on the honda!

Seems to be a pick and chose warranty claim, the guy was most helpful but i felt it was just jumbo from skoda to warrant them declining a claim.

They've accepted the claim for the tailgate and the passenger sill. However declined the driver side sill and door claiming 'stonechip'. He's given me some claim numbers so I'm going to give customer services a ring. If they've accepted one and not the other, when they're the same problem, that doesn't seem right to me. The bottom of the door is equally as hard to get to as the boot itself re: stone chips, so my ass that's a stone chip either.. Not massively happy, but fingers crossed I can convince them on the phone. Has anyone had any luck changing the verdict of a claim on the phone?

Customer services feels like a dead end. I've been told they're not in a position to overturn the decisions, nor can I speak to someone on the warranty team directly as they're internal only. He's going to talk with the dealer to do something or other. It's mind boggling that they have the stones to suggest that one side of the car is corrosion and the other an issue with the paint. Then again, it's a big company, so it's not that surprising. It doesn't take a genius to come to the conclusion that if the boot and the passenger side is corrosion. Then the inside of the door is probably corrosion too, not even mentioning the sill which exhibits the same issues.

He's now saying that as I've only owned the car a short while, they might decline it based on the fact that it was a pre-existing condition. The service history means next to **** all, as it's not in my name. Go figure. So we'll see what happens. I'm not buying another Skoda car, I can tell you that already.

to be fair .... most fabias now are getting on i know mines coming up to 10 .... not many manufacturers would offer a warrenty on a 10year old car and the ones that do inc skoda wont pay out 100% of the time

Mine's only 7, so I wouldn't have expected it to have the issue in the first place. I've had older cars, that were cheaper, which were completely fine. It'll be hit and miss though. If I can get half of it paid for, it's better than nothing. I was just going to do it myself anyway so it's saved me some cash. I'll see what happens. Plus I do like the Octavia VRS a lot. Anything will be a plus at the end of the day, I was just a tad ****ed off. I hate these cop out responses from companies.

Well when i bought my car i got the bumper done as part of a deal from evans halshaw but it was a quick job and you could notice it so i got a quote for my back bumper to get done while it was in and they were wanting 350 for that alone from specialist cars :o. Gave it a miss cause it isnt that bad haha. Happy with my boot and quarter panel though :)

Just had my car back from the dealer. They did the entire passenger sill, including some stone chips near the rear wheel arch. And the boot. I'm very happy with it, to be honest. It took a week, and the courtesy car wasn't exactly nippy (Automatic Citigo), but I can't complain. It's saved me a chunk of money from doing it myself. Plus they lost the rear fabia badge and are ordering a new one, which means it currently debadged. Think I'm going to leave it like that, as it does look very nice imo. I've had a quote of about £200 for the other sill and bottom of the door, which I'll do after christmas.

Here is a good website for anyone looking for rust treatment products. http://www.frost.co.uk/

This is a excellent rust converter product. Apparently used by the MOD. http://www.frost.co.uk/automotive-rust-products/misc/granville-heavy-duty-rust-cure.html

And this is again an excellent, rust preventative primer. It's cold galvanized paint 96% pure zinc by volume, used in the marine industry. So it's more than good enough for cars. http://www.frost.co.uk/automotive-rust-products/misc/zinga-cold-zinc-coating.html

I have used both on my mk1 and so far i'm well impressed.
