vRS Cornering Fog Lights Apparently YES

Featured Replies

Probably mentioned before but they could be disabled due to UK laws, which last time I checked are out of SUKs control.

"You MUST NOT use front or rear fog lights unless visibility is seriously reduced (see Rule 226) as they dazzle other road users and can obscure your brake lights. You MUST switch them off when visibility improves.

Law RVLR regs 25 & 27"

As EU law allows for the cornering fog light function and EU law over rules UK law cornering fogs are legal in the UK, hence so many cars having them as standard these days, including my UK spec Superb which had them enabled from the factory.

The lack of them on the UK spec MKIII vRS is a ****-up by Skoda UK.

I'd argue it would simply be easier for SUK to ask the factory to enable them rather than change the brochure.

Totally agree, why do Skoda make so many things, .........well very frustrating ?????

I've been going through kensym's boot sticker after he emailed me a copy so I can start learning the option codes for Skoda. The boot sticker isn't exhaustive having only 45 PR Codes listed.

He has, amongst other codes, 8WB - fogs, halogen + TFL.

On etka the PR Code 8WH is Fogs, halogen built in CORNER.

Can anyone else who has got their octy 3, vrs or otherwise, check their boot sticker for either of the above codes.

And if you get the chance, do the cornering fogs work?

The components required to make the cornering fogs work are present on all UK vRS's.

The front fog lights have 2x bulbs, they both come on when the front fogs are turned on but as I understand it only the outer one illuminates for the cornering function?

Therefore the only additional requirement is turning them on or activating them using VCDS, as soon as Ross-Tech pull their finger out!

closest ive got is 8WB, 8ZH, 8QL, 8X1, 8GU, 8RM.

mine doesnt have cornering turned on

I have an Hyundai I40 Tourer company car which has turning fog lights. It's a really useful function at low speeds on low light or unlit roads. It gives you a couple of seconds vision ahead of the headlights and fills in the space you are turning into. So I would agree the UK law element must be superseded by the EU regs

Eu law does not overrule UK law

Behave yourself.

Yes it can.

For those of you old enough to remember dim-dip...

"In 1988, the European Commission successfully prosecuted the UK government in the European Court of Justice, arguing that the UK requirement for dim-dip was illegal under EC directives prohibiting member states from enacting vehicle lighting requirements not contained in pan-European EC directives. As a result, the UK requirement for dim-dip was quashed.[33] Nevertheless, dim-dip systems remain permitted, and while such systems are not presently as common as they once were, dim-dip functionality was fitted on many new cars well into the 1990s. The Jaguar XJS used this system, including the final Celebration models produced up until 1995."

If the EU says cornering fog lights are allowed then as a member of the EU they are legal here regardless of what is written in the Highway Code.

Definitely not on my VRS which was collected yesterday (factory build week 37).

I looked in the boot of the showroom vRS in Botley yesterday and the boot sticker showed 8WB. That makes 3 vRS' so far. I imagine yours is the same Jerry and not 8WH.

Hopefully it is just a case of 'switching' them on.

Hi James, another 8WB here :(

As to your question about the clear plastic protectors, these I imagine are a standard fit and not part of the Life Shine package.

Hi All

I am picking up my VRS on Thursday and discussed the cornering fog issue with the dealer. They claimed that they hadn't heard of the cornering fog issue on UK builds but that if the lights can be coded to cornering on they will do this for me. I will keep you informed of the outcome.

You can recode the Octavia 3 to activate cornering lights with the foglights:

You can indeed.

Your video isn't of a vRS though which has two foglight bulbs per side, so 4 adaptation channels need changing in order to enable both bulbs in each foglight to function as a cornering light.

I have a separate thread on this, and have done this on a very early vRS (June 2013) and on a later (November 2013) model and it works on both with exactly the same coding.

As usual, the community is way ahead of the dealer network on things like this.

Is the cornering headlight function maintained with the fogs enabled?

When one stops, the other begins. Obviously only for xenons...

Yep, they are completely independent of each other.

Cornering fogs stop at 40km/h, which is adjustable :-)
