vRS Cornering Fog Lights Apparently YES

Featured Replies

Well a lot of talk about this topic and how cornering fogs are not an option on the vRS.

Just take a look at the vid below, yes its in dutch but just fast forward to around 3mins 10 sec's.........

...........and there they are..................... cornering fogs in all their glory.

Columbus and B+W Maxidot too.. Odd spec car!

Could this be something that is country-specific?

It could well be but at least it should be easy to code in.

Good point, that's kind of exciting then. How does coding work on these new models? Do you need to be connected to a Skoda mainframe or anything?

Mr. HKP you're pretty up to speed on coding are you not? Can you shed any light?

Are they not a bit pointless anyway since the headlights turn with the steering anyway?

Although I have to say I'm pretty impressed with the spread of light the fog lamps give.

The headlight turning works at higher speeds and the turning foglights operate at lower speeds.

The headlights don't turn.

Ah, fair enough! I'm sure my lights moved at all speed but to be fair I haven't been out in mine in the dark much, plus all the low speed stuff has been in town so light enough anyway I guess. It's always nice to get something the manufacturer thinks that we don't need or want over here!

Neily, trust me, the bi-xenon lights turn with the steering wheel. But only in normal or sport modes.

The headlights don't turn.

I've not got mine yet but I was under the impression they should do this, is this another thing the UK is missing out on?

I thought they were also supposed to change the 'beam' depending on driving mode and speed as well. Do they not do this?

Mike, they do. I've not had much of a chance to drive in different conditions yet but they do turn with the steering inputs.

The brochure (I know, pinch of salt usually required) and the manual both describe the adaptive beam patterns so fingers crossed all should be well there too. Can't see an issue there as the tourist mode is available in the car setup.

The Xenons on the Octavia III do indeed turn, however you need to be going over a certain speed for them to do so and the cornering fogs (on my Elegance at least) only operate below a certain speed -the two functions would not operate at the same time.

The cornering function on the vRS hasn't been questioned. It's been known all along it was possible.

The problem is Skoda UK who for some bizzare reason decided not to activate them on UK spec vRS's, despite advertising the feature in the brochure.

When it comes to promotional material SUK really do live up to their name.

As soon as Ross-Tech catch up and publish the coding they will be easily activated via VCDS.

Patience my friends!

just been out to double checked as I hadnt and mine doesnt have cornering fogs and the xenons, as above, most definitely DO bend when driving.

Im sure Skoda have seen fit to give it to our european neighbours and leave it off ours just like footwell lights and folding mirrors :(

This is what Skoda had to say on the matter when I queried it

Octavia vRS foglights error Brochure and some POS materials contain an error about lights’ specification

The Octavia brochure and some point-of-sale (POS) leaflets about the Octavia vRS contain an error about foglights.

They say cornering foglights with a darkened surround are standard equipment on the Octavia vRS. The standard foglights are not darkened and do not have cornering functionality.

Please make sure customers are aware of this error when handing them brochures and POS leaflets. We will update the brochure as quickly as possible.

im sure VCDS will be able to turn them on soon

I haven't been able to find it yet on VCDS, but then again my car has been in the garage more than it has been with me since the latest VCDS update that has more info on the octavia 3...

I have heard that it's quite easy to enable cornering fogs on a Citigo though  :giggle:

I stand corrected, was just going off all the documentation saying AFS was adaptive beam and not bending like the mkII.

Ah yes I had forgotten about that... Really sorry to hear about your new car! Gutted! It'll all be fixed again soon though. Who knows, maybe they'll even sort out the Columbus for you!

It seems everybody's Skoda does different things? Some people have lights that bend and some don't?

Funny: on a german site (skodacommunity.de) someone asked to deactivate it via vcds ;)

Probably mentioned before but they could be disabled due to UK laws, which last time I checked are out of SUKs control.

"You MUST NOT use front or rear fog lights unless visibility is seriously reduced (see Rule 226) as they dazzle other road users and can obscure your brake lights. You MUST switch them off when visibility improves.
Law RVLR regs 25 & 27

Don't tell anyone I've turned it on on my loaner while i have it ;)

Progress on the Columbus... SUK have asked for part numbers in order to work out a code to enable it on VAS. Fingers crossed :)

I think you'll have a few people knocking at the door to turn them on for them

The Xenons on the Octavia III do turn and in vrsIII must be in SPORT or NORMAL ( not ECO) mode to turn on. Cornering fogs on my vrsIII only swich on below a certain speed and light and workd fine. And yes, works the same time. Cornering fogs do not swich on, when DRL are on.
