anyone with phone prep who streams music from their phone?

Featured Replies

I have a big HDD connected to the MDI, but it takes about an hour to boot up, as it seems I have put too much on there!

on short journeys I stream music through the phone prep system, which works very well, can be started and stopped, and tracks skipped, by voice control, only problem is, if I get a phone call, the phone call works well, but I then cant get the music back, without handling my phone, and starting it again from the music part of my phone1 (iphone 5)

any ideas how I can get the music back without taking the phone out my pocket?

thanks

OR how to get my HD to load up quickly!

Sadly can't help as my iphone(4) does the streaming (BT-AUDIO) but my works Nokia is the phone bit..and the iphone streaming restarts after the call (I think..).  Doesn't restart after I switch the engine off though..  Might have to test it though?

As for the quantity of music, I just have a few 4GB USB sticks for the music - boots up within a few seconds normally..

What about streaming the music via the jack plug instead from the iphone (and disconnect it as a media player) as the phone call will cut the music for the duration, although not pause it..

you loose all controllability then, thats the point, I can restart the music from my phone, if I use the controls on the phone....

thanks for the reply though..... my old iphone is being utilised as my dash cam! lol...

Use the old iPhone as the media player via BT?

How do you change track through voice control?

I read in the manual that the command ' play music' works but when tries i just get told off and the possible commands!

Technology was supposed to maje things easy/better wasnt it? Lol

My Samsung Note 2 restarts after a call :p but SWMBO has an iphone 5 in our focus which does the same thing so maybe it's an apple 'quirk' To restart the music in the focus you have to change the source away from media and then back again.

press the volume roller, it'll say "main menu" then you say "music" then you say "play" to start or "stop" to stop, or "next" to change tracks (my iphone is set on random, with about 8 gig of music on it)

this way your phone can stay in your pocket (unless you get a call, and then want music back! :( )

makes sense, could be an apple thing, I'll try changing the sources, away from BT-AUDIO and back again, see if this resolves the issue, but I doubt it will be the same as the ford... but its possible if the issue is with the phone not the car!

thanks. I'll report back

Defo an Apple thing, I've had 3 different android phones (plus 2 of my friends) so far that have all been resuming play right after the call finishes... But that's only the 72423876904th reason in the "why you shouldn't buy an iphone" list...  :giggle:

I tried this a minute ago on my drive to work and it dosent work! I pressed the roller and said 'Music' but it just came back giving me the available commands!

Do i need to be in a specific menu? it seems that the commands im giving on voice can only be related to the phone! so how do i get it to accept the commands for the music?

Whys it so hard!!!

It works, just say clearly: Music and then Next, it does in mine and without being in a specific menu. However I find it so slow, non-practical and slightly ridiculous (imagine the passengers hearing you every 10 minutes going: "Ehh, MUSIC!, NEXT!"....) that I never use it.

Normally I keep my phone nearby and (thankfully) it changes tracks just by pressing its volume rockers, no need to run on the screen or anything, just grab it and press volume up for next, volume down for previous, too simple, too easy.

it should work, does on mine! it only starts speeling out the available commands if it doesn't understand you... dont try to hard to pronounce the words just speak normally to it ;) if you get no joy, I would suggest a trip to the stealer to see whats wrong!

Not really answering your question but I am using a 32Gb USB flash stick and have no start up delays - its instant. Might be better to replace the hard drive with that. Or a solid state drive might be faster too, but a little expensive.

thanks, I know they work, I have enough memory in my phone to be similar anyway, and the extra 5,000 tracks on the HD (if I'm driving for longer than an hour!)

addly the problem seems to have cured itself, although this time I let the call run to vouce mail, then simply went back to voice commands "music > play" and it worked this time... odd.... seems to have a mind of its own!

Ill try again with my speaking with her, but it recognises me saying call..... and cancel a-ok!   the car is in on the 14th to have a number of issues sorted! unbelievable for a car less than 3 weeks old, little gutted from Skoda!

also make sure you get the phone playing the song, then pause it, before you try ;) If I have it on a menu of songs it wont start play....
