After much messing about, I have finally updated my SD card via my laptop.

When I view it on my computer, it has a maps folder etc. and looks good to go.

When I put it into the SD socket in the car, it clicks in and out as it should do.

Unfortunately, the screen says the unit does not have a card.

Is there some reset system to boot it up?

(It all worked fine before, but the maps were a bit out of date).

Hi Peter, have you checked that the data-lock switch is in the correct position on the SD card?

It's not a Macbook you used is it? MacOS  puts extra hidden files on that the car system doesn't like.

Unfortunately, I am still unable to fire up my Sat Nav but I have done some more twiddling in the car and on my Windows 7 laptop (fully updated to final issues).

 

The SD card can be Read by my laptop in both locked and unlocked mode. My understanding is that it is only necessary to unlock it when you want to Write onto it. (This was necessary when I did the update.)

Anyway, I have tried both ways in the Amundsen with identical results.

Presumably the locked position is normal to prevent corruption of the data from outside.

 

This is how it goes in the car – messages in red:

 

1. Switch on ignition and Infotainment system without SD Card

Please insert data medium with valid navigation data

 

2. Inserting the SD Car gets a fleeting message:-

The source contains the navigation database

 

Followed Immediately by:

Navigation database not available

 

3. I’ve trawled through the on screen menu and the only one which looks as though it could be relevant is Reset all Settings and I’m too scared to try that!

On the Laptop, my updated SD Card shows as

SDHC (K;) 8.42 GB free of 14.8GB

 

When I open it a folder called STD2_1410_EU1_202022 appears

 

When I open that I get 2 more sub-folders

maps and 1410_MP191- 1240.x_EU1.md5sum.txt

 

Opening maps leads to 2 more folders 00 and EEC - and so it goes on!

Opening the other one leads to pages and pages of text streams, which are meaningless to me.

 

My gut feeling is that there is a program for reading and assimilation the map data which is now missing – but I really haven’t got a clue!!!

 

Any boffins out there?

I'd expect that the software for reading the data is withing the main unit, and not on the SD card. My experience with the SD card is on a Kodiaq, so can't relly compare beyond the hidden files issue.

Try taking the maps folder and 1410_MPxxxxxxx stuff out of that main folder into the root of the drive. It had to be like that when updating my head unit firmware.

Thanks lowedb, that was my thought as well.

However, that suggests that just plugging in my updated SD card would be enough for it to be Read and that would be "Job Done".

Alternatively, if we are right about the in-car unit containing all the necessary control programs, it may be that actuating the "Reset all Settings"  might do the trick, but I'm still a bit scared about what else could happen.

I will wait a bit to see if any other advice comes in.

1. Copy the whole SD card onto my laptop as a back-up

2. Format my SD card so it is empty

3. Copy the two sub-folders ONLY onto the formatted SD Card,

i.e

maps

and

1410_MP191- 1240.x_EU1.md5sum.tx

4. Try again in the car.

 

Have I got that right?

Can't see how it could do any harm anyway.

If it doesn't fix the problem I can reverse the process and be back at Square 1

Yes that's right, though you can simply just move them to the root of the drive, the navigation system will look for the maps folder and work from there.

 

It was the same when i updated the head unit firmware, i had to put the sub folders onto the sd card only, otherwise the head unit wouldn't pick it up.

 

 

 

My maps are back!!!

It was exactly as FabiaGonzales  said.

It seems a bit of a poor show from Skoda though, as there is no hint of this on the instructions in their On-Line Portal.

You would naturally think that, as long as you follow their step by step guide, it would be no problem.
