So Lofty with the polo top mounts and plates fitted do you have a slight gap between the plate and body? I would be happy with that. And some part numbers?

  • Up date on this thread folks,   Well fitted the Poly bush top mounts and kept the VRS top plates and 3 days of running and i have to say no issue. The drive is a little better for me because i benef

Basically top mounts and plates from said vehicle are designed to work together, so are perfect with just a very small gap as is recommended by the manufacturer. they are considerably thinner than the standard top mount, and the top plate compensate for that as it would do in the polo as standard. anyone worried about weight rating is not an issue because these cars have the 1.9 tdi engine in them anyway. google is your friend have a look at it mark 4 golf with polo top mounts as the mark 4 golf is the same platform. very common modification in the volkswagen world

So, it is the shorter polybush that lowers the front? I'd like to drop the front of mine 5-10mm just to make the car look flatter. If it improves the suspension travel then that's an added bonus. What would happen if you were to just fit the Polo top cap and have a standard bush? It wouldn't really make much difference would it?

I have powerflex top mounts and they fit find and look very similar to standard mounts and they have been on 5k and not caused any issues

Where did you get the powerflex ones from buddy?

i was going to go down this route but it seems alot of hassle for nothing and i will be tracking mine so i wont be doing no ghetto fix.

I think the standard octy bearing is the same as the polo. I've ordered some because my steering is noisy so I'm guessing with the polybush mounts on mine the bearings are wacked. I'm just gonna use my original nuts. Lofty will know more than me though.

TBH dude your bearing might not be wacked and something else is wrong but at the price they are replace anyway and start clean.

As mentioned you should not need any none Skoda / Octy bearing/ top mount plate for your set up(although bearing is the same on most VAG cars) You can just get the Octy  std top mount plate and bearings and job should be ok.

All this waffle about using polo top mount brackets needed from those web site is pure rubbish.

get shot of those polo top plate if using skoda/bora poly mounts and fit skoda ones back on.

The issue the 2 guys had is not a failure of the STD plate pulling through but more of incorrect fitting of the mount.

The Skoda Poly bushes has a cut out in the center the same as the std octy top mount to allow for the longer curve in the skoda mount plate.

Now if you go for fitting Polo Top mounts like Lofty then yes you will need to match the polo mount with a Polo top plate as the polo mount does not have the same center cut out  in the mount as the Octy one and thus,  if you fit a std Octy top plate to the Polo mount the plate will be sticking in the air. Like wise if you do the opposite and fit polo top plate to skoda mounts you will be attempting to pull the mount through the turret..

The use of the polo top mount and top plate give the benefit of lowering 15mm which would be slightly better than the Octy poly top mount but I would question the life of the Polo mount as it is voided and to me don't look up to the job like a Poly bushes do, but Lofty seems to have good life from his.

My car is poly bushed all round, lowered a lot and braced up and i will be fitting poly bush top mounts as think I would kill those polo mounts in no time..

my two pence worth anyway...

hope you get it sorted buddy

Yeah just use originals unless your pedantic. as regards torque settings i usually pull until i go oooof, then its set.

Polo top mounts are good for a couple o years in a tdi, just keep a casual eye out, as you would for any componant.

What makes you so heavy on top mounts bowders? Haha- been piling on the pounds?

that sounds a bit chinzy to me . I never pull mine dude.............i get some else to.....

lol.................

no comment....

I going to say it is the tighter cornering from  the R32 front end set up with castor adjust  bushes........

Is there a significant difference at all?

I want to tighten up an occy as much as i can.

If your struggling for cash a couple lemforder tt bushes for wishbone does one heck of alot.

Re polo mounts, the ones i got were akmost solid, mainly metal inside under the rubber, maybe they toughened them

to what???

it you refer to the top mounts then which ones?

The std Octy Top mount do a good job at softening the movement of the strut , replacing with a polo Top mount in not really about tightening but about allowing folks to benefit lowering car even more due to being shorter by 10 to 15mm

Fitting poly bush mounts is a double effect of doing the same but also making the cushioning of the strut a lot firmer.

I would not go this route on a car that has not already had better methods of actually tightening the chassis first. like a RARB , wishbone bush , FARB bush etc

These were the mounts I used although not from this seller. I've checked then checked again. The mounts have pulled up and seated properly. Polo top plates ( seller recommended to use these ) touched the body then actually started pulling through. Octavia ones sit too high so can't be used. Maybe other polyurethane bushes could go with Octavia plates superpro etc ) but these won't.

You can see how they sit here:

Rob those look just like mine and Meat101's poly bush

You can clearly see the cup in the poly bush is a lot less deeper compared to the metal OEM bracket fitted on the Skoda

Rob also i see in yours how using std Skoda top bracket has meant it sitting higher in the air as the strut is sitting with the car weight on the ground. i am surprised you don't get a knocking when the strut is moved up and down through road driving conditions as clearly the strut is not tight in turret?

Here is mine with std Mounts and brackets nice and tight on turret.

I can't explain why you are getting your bushes pulled through TBH.. Need pics buddy

But I can understand why you use the Polo top mount bracket to turret to get it nice and clamped down.

i am not sure if the top mount bracket when tightened pulls the strut and top mount right up to the bracket and touching it to form a tight seal. I thought that the top mount although pulled up to turret there was a gap in turret between mount and top bracket to still be able to get the Skoda bracket to tighten down. Now if that is incorrect and I can't remember and top mount bracket actually is able to be tightened so far to actually touch the strut inner nut and bearing explains why Rob is sitting high and maybe a need to get polo bracket for the poly bush in question.

Best bet buddy is take a few pics of strut and mount fitted but no top mount bracket on so we can see the height of the mount in the strut turret if this makes sense. I might even undo mine and check later
