Help needed for newbie guys

Featured Replies

Hi guys I have recently bought a 1.3 1999 felicia estate! When I bought it I knew there was a problem with the alternator and charging circuit so I had a new alternator, battery and a auto electrician fix the wiring fault. However I now have a problem that the car will start fine from cold however when warmed up it is a pig to start unless I leave it 20 mins I have fitted a s/h starter to no avail but did read that it may be crank sensor. I removed that and the silver magnet looks all scored on the bottom but not sure whether this makes a difference

Any help would be appreciated it just won't start after being used turns over fine and hear fuel pump relay etc.... As should.

Any ideas guys

Unplug the sensor and it'll fire first time - my car has the same problem and I've replaced the sensor to no avail.

Hi thanks for the advice do you mean the crank or temp sensor to unplug and also do you plug it back in once started?

This problem has puzzled me has no other running problems apart from this lol

You problem is the temp sensor unplug start then connect back up and get a new one as ecu will adjust mixture from this

The temperature sensor I was referring to yes.  I have run with it unplugged for about 3000 miles (and I think the previous owner did too) with no real ill effects, returning 56MPG so there can't be much wrong with the mixture.

Temperature gauge doesn't work if you leave the sensor unplugged though hence some plug it back in after starting.

The temp sensor makes no difference to the mixture on a Diesel engine ^^

Tested that as you said but when I disconnected the sensor no difference, however there is another sensor at the back of the engine near the throttle body I think it is on the manifold and when I disconnect that it starts then I connect and it's fine till next time I stop however it still starts cold fine any ideas guys what this is? Also noticed that it pulls off a little sluggish today too

Sorted guys changed temp. Sensor as you said for a genuine one and works a treat, looks like the last owner had fitted an aftermarket one to solve this problem and it was faulty, goes to show quality counts for a lot. Also give her a oil change as well as all filters so hopefully that will keep her happy for a while.

Back to happy motoring now :-)
