Brake Upgrade on OCTAVIA VRS MK2 2007

Featured Replies

Hi there

I own a Octavia VRS mk2 (1z) 2007...and i was looking to upgrade my brakes, once my car has the power upgrade to 310bhp...

But i have a few doubts i would like to clear so i could upgrade my brakes!

So, i was looking to upgrade to the AUDI RS calipers (those with the 370mm discs). But there fixing holes of the caliper to the hub are 145mm center to center...the Octavia is 130mm right?? or it's the same has the calipers??

If these won't fit, can i upgrade to the AUDI S3 calipers with 345mm disc? Are these plug and play direct replacement??

The calipers are these on the photo below.

First the RS calipers with 370mm discs

Second the S3 calipers with 345mm disc

THANKS for the help!!!

S3 calipers are a straight fit and there's now a recommended upgrade using a 345mm (Brembo I think) disc with Project Mu pads (approx £350 all in plus your calipers).

Alternatively you can get a bracket that lets you fit Brembo 4 pot calipers off the 986 2.5/2.7 Boxster that uses the standard 312mm disc.

Off topic but what mods will get you to 310bhp?

These S3 are direct just bolt on??

I own a 2.0TDI 170bhp VRS...Air induction, front IC, Turbo, manifold (headers) and straight exhaust line

Having previously had the 312mm VRS setup followed by the S3 345mm setup, I'd highly recommend the Porsche setup as per my sig. Way better pedal feel, much lower unsprung weight, they'll likely clear the rim of any OE alloy and they offer exceptional all round performance. :)

Porsche caliper with 312mm disc? or bigger discs?

Slightly off topic, but talk to me of this 310Hp.

I understood John, but wouldn't the breaking be improved with bigger discs like 330mm or 345mm? those calipers fit those disc i guess

Sorry OP, I missed your later post. Ive cut and pasted this from my Yeti project build thread as its fairly relevant and saves my retyping the whole thing again..

I got my Porsche setup from 'brake caliper refurbs' and couldnt be happier with their service (although im still waiting on Dave at vagbremtech to sort my rears). :(

"My strong feeling is that the 312mm disk used with DS2500 pads and ATE fluid give the best all round price/performance ratio. As you say, good from cold, exceptional on demanding roads (a certain favourite Austrian pass springs to mind) and cheap to do, especially if your car already has the 312mm disks (and therefore carriers) in place but dont get me wrong, the Porsche kit is amazing value for money and will ultimately outperform the above setup.

The quality of the monoblock Porsche caliper ie its lightness and rigidity are superb and leagues above what the OE VAG caliper can provide. In terms of pedal feel its also exceptional, by far the best modulated pedal feel of any Skoda ive driven - apparently down to the fact they use two different sized pistons in each caliper body. Unsprung weight is reduced and they are totally preferable to the 345mm S3 setup I had previously - as in, night and day preferable, mainly on the counts of weight difference, pedal feel and cost. Performance of the Porsche setup is superior for fast road use so as to why people go the S3 route over the Porsche NQSBBK I just cant fathom.

Ultimately though I feel a more aggressive pad would do wonders for my current setup when things get properly cooking. I'll be looking to see if the DS2500 is available when mine are due for renewal. The fact that the disk is still 312mm has a few advantages (replacement costs and off the shelf availability) but if you were using the car mainly on track id suggest a 'bigger' overall setup ie more disk surface to help disipate the heat. For me and this car and its uses, the Porsche setup is perfect. Besides, I always wanted a Porsche before I was 40, well Im not quite there yet but if I dont make it at least I can say my Skoda has genuine Porsche brakes at least! " :giggle:

Got you

A caliper off a Boxster won't support a disc larger than 312mm as far as I am aware. I believe you can go up to a 996 caliper that uses either a 330 or 345 mm Merc disc but I don't know which it is sorry.

Yeti_Man

You got it ahahahahahaha ;)

Thanks for the ideia! it's for daily normal use...i don't do track..Unfortunatly in Portugal it's expensive and has you can see, our economical phase isn't the best LOL

I guess i will try that. I can get the porsche adapter bracket on ebay for £100 and the calipers for cheap price too :)

Or i might use the kit I explain to j0hn above... please read it yeti_man ;)

Also, yeti, are you looking for an upgrade for the rear breakes?? Take a look at these:

Like this, there are others for OEM calipers!

j0hn

996.351.425 and 996.351.426

Porsche caliper part number for 996 front calipers, that uses 330mm disc!

For the calipers you said, Porsche Boxter/Cayman 986/987, it's this part number

 986.351.421 and 986.351.422

the 996 uses 330m disc...I can use either merc disc or 345mm audi S3 5x112 disc if it fits (I don't know for sure)

Mercedes discs is 330mm x 32mm , centering diameter 67mm

VAG (audi/seat/vw/Skoda) discs are 345mm x 30mm, centering diameter 65mm

OEM Skoda disc is 312mm x 25, centering diameter 65mm

So...the calipers are porsche!! It's decided!!

But know...wich ones?! the boxter 312mm ones or the 996 and use a merc or vag 345mm disc (don't know if it fits...)

ohhh another imporante thing...does the master cylinder support and make it work good the porsche calipers?? I know that on 6pot calipers the braking sistem gets a little bit crappy because the master cylinder isn't enought

I'd stick with the Boxster ones for price/performance ratio and well up to what you describe. You'll need BIG alloys or spacers for the bigger porsche calipers - something I was keen to avoid. Master cylinder is perfectly fine with the Boxster calipers. I had the c class 330mm setup and a fitment kit ready to go but didnt like the quality so ended up with the vagbremtech kit using 312mm OE/Pagid disks. :)

The 996 with the 330mm disc kit don't fit 18"wheels??

Depends on the offset but my OE ones were 10mm too tight! Oh and those rear Porsche ones are a big no no. They'd be we'll over the top, ruining the balance, be too heavy and be too demanding on the master cylinder.

My wheels are ET51...i guess it fits big calipers

I guess i will upgrade to RS calipers with 370mm disc in front. rear i will go R32 caliper with 310mm disc.

Does the master cylinder goes well with this upgrade?

The 996 with the 330mm disc kit don't fit 18"wheels??

An audi A8/S8 disk would fit as i have these on the front of my audi S2 coupe with 996 calipers think they are about 323mm and you can pick up a pair from euro car parts for about £90 the 996 calipers are the same ones as a boxster S front NOT the standard boxster

  • 1 month later...

sorry to relauch the thread but I've been reading a lot about those boxter calipers and I can't find any place that sells the brackets, someone has a link ?

thanks !

I've actually got a set that I was about to advertise for sale if SNH doesn't want them.

PM me if you're interested or I can put them into the sales section. You will have to buy the brake lines separately but HEL versions are available from ebay for £50 + post.

sent !
