Just taken delivery of a new Fabia estate.

 

The standard LCD MFD now sports a "current speed" indication - however this is showing the speed in km/hr. Can it be changed to mph and is it a dealer job via diagnostics? - there is nothing in the manual about changing it.

 

There is also mention in the manual of a speed warning feature - is this standard?

You can display MPH or KPH without displaying both. The car has to be capable of showing both if required.

 

My Vrs only displays MPH but I can show both within seconds

Speed warning is on full function Maxi-dot.  Set it and it bongs at you that you're going faster.

Dealers will not change this as, in theory, it voids the type approval of the car as the display is 'fixed' by the manufacturer. In the UK, no one has ever had a problem after changing this.

If you go to France, make sure km/h is displayed before you get off the boat. Checking that you have not disabled it, is just another thing the Gendarmes can do to relieve you of your spending money.

It can be changed by connecting to a laptop via VCDS and changing the country to Australia but you'll probably find that a dealer won't do this.

The KPH will be changed to MPH in the Maxidot screen.

You would need to find someone with a VCDS to do it for you.

There's loads of people on here who have one and would probably do it for you if you ask nicely.

Whatever happened to common sense? Was having a dual scaled speedometer such an expensive thing? (That of course is a rhetorical question)

The kph is required as there are no longer kph markings around the speedo.

It isn't meant to show mph, but as above can be made to do so.

As such to avoid a UK only version, they have dispensed with kph markings and added it digitally.

It basically involves using VCDS to tell the car it is Australian and then using Maxidot to select/deselect the display options.

You are probably going to need a pukka Ross-Tech VCDS interface as an eBay cable will probably not let you do the following:

Go to 17-Instruments and look under Coding, then (IIRC) on the first page, there is a drop down list of countries (it will currently be set as UK) change it to Australia, this is all you need VCDS for.

Then on the car's maxidot go to:

MFD

SETTINGS

Units,

"Consu/distance" change this back to mpg (GB), mi (as it defaults to 1/100km, km),

then

SETTINGS

"MFD data" and make sure the box for Digit.speed is ticked

then

SETTINGS

and unticked the "ALT.speed dis." box (this will remove the KPH speed and replace it with the outside temp display)

EU cars dont have a speedo scale printed in mph!
