Maxi-Dot. Kmh to Mph.

Featured Replies

I am sure this has been asked before, but can you change the digital read out on a Monte Maxi-Dot from Kmh to Mph and vise versa.

No..It cant be done I'm afraid

KPH is required by law

I have maxi dot on my elegance I'm sure you should have both

Hmm on the polo gti you can if you change the region to austraia with vcds

I think you can change the Language via the Maxi dote on the Fabia Vrs MK II

Is this cos eu law ? And because we go over the pond for beer and wine

It is possible, but would be illegal. All speedos are required to show KPH, and since only MPH is written on the dial, maxidot has to show KPH.

Don't think this can be the case, my Porsche (and my previous Vantage) only has Mph on the speedo and the digital speed readout shows mph too (much needed as speedos so small) tho can easily be switched to kph. So just think it's Skodas policy

Ah, but the key is it is easily switchable, Skodas is not, you have to "hack" it with VCDS

Yeah but surely in the uk any car built now is never going to need kph, so why not default it all to mph :'( [better start brushing up on hacking skills :smirk: ]

YES IT CAN BE DONE

Sorry for the large font, but those who say it can't obviously have never tried, I have done 2 cars now.

As for it not being legal .... yes it is - because the KPH can be turned back on whenever you like with just the maxidot (VCDS is not needed a second time). It takes no longer to turn on than to activate the tourist setting on xenon headlights, which BOTH can be done in less than a minute.

Don't listen to the people that say it can't be done - just take it to someone who has done it before.

You can do mine when it arrives gizmo :)

Please tell ! So you need vcds to do it first time but do you have to redo it for m. O. T

I have access to VCDS, so assume I can do this too.

No problem, give me a shout when it arrives, I'm only just up the road after all

Yes you need VCDS, under 17-Instruments just change the cars country to Australia, the KPH will be replaced with the outside temp gauge, you also get the options of the large MPH digital display and when required the KPH.

Nothing will need to be re-done for the MOT as it's all selectable in the MFD

Sorry to sound thick , but what is a VCDS and how do you use it , would my local dealer change it to Australia setting for me, or is this a no non as far as main dealers are concerned. Thanks.

VCDS is essentially a diagnostic interface (cable) and software made by Ross-Tech HOWEVER it does much more than just diagnosing fault codes, it can be used to change the settings of the car, so for example some minor changes possible are it can activate alarm chirps, single door unlocking etc etc etc, some of these things can be changed if your car has MFD (maxidot display) but some can't and need VCDS to make the initial change.

It is also capable of doing much more major adaptations / coding.

I very much doubt if your dealer would know how to activate some of the things that VCDS is capable of, even if they did they would probably be reluctant to do so as VCDS is not a genuine VAG product (they use VAS - which is apparently nowhere near as user friendly)

Are you able go give me a step by step of how to do it I think my mate has a vcds

You are probably going to need a pukka Ross-Tech VCDS interface as an eBay cable will probably not let you do the following:

Go to 17-Instruments and look under Coding, then (IIRC) on the first page, there is a drop down list of countries (it will currently be set as UK) change it to Australia, this is all you need VCDS for.

Then on the car's maxidot go to:

MFD

SETTINGS

Units,

"Consu/distance" change this back to mpg (GB), mi (as it defaults to 1/100km, km),

then

SETTINGS

"MFD data" and make sure the box for Digit.speed is ticked

then

SETTINGS

and unticked the "ALT.speed dis." box (this will remove the KPH speed and replace it with the outside temp display)

I am at a total loss to understand how Skoda have screwed up 100% on so many of their speedometers for the UK market.

Also - would some one please tell me why SUK have not told them back at HQ what the UK market wants/needs.

Am I expecting too much.

Apparently it was a requirement to have it in KPH but I don't see why if the dials have KPH and MPH. Some cars only have digital dispays - some Renaults? How do they get away with it if they need KPH? Someone just making up the rules on a friday afternoon me thinks...

I have a friend with vagcom from rosstech , he uses for his 54/55 plate Leon cupra . Woul this software work with the vrs.

I followed these instructions. Worked a real treat using ODIS on my 2011 fabia estate. I now have a large digital MPH readout in the centre, and I can now choose between "outside temp" or small KPH display through the MFD. Many thanks.
