  • We also shouldn't have crumple zones and seatbelts, after all, if people kept control of their vehicles and are able to anticipate what's going on ahead of them, we wouldn't need them.

  • Cat shortages are a big problem. Now, if they could throw in a Panther or a Tiger I'd still be in for a deal!

  • Some clarification for everyone   Front Assist is still standard on the Elegance model but the lead time has been extended by 4-6 weeks   The same with Lane Assist, it is still standard on vRS etc

Also Lane Assist is standard to the vRS so that will have to be kept too.

Not necessarily form what I understand of factory production, the basic spec i.e. engine and trim is set at the factory and any other standard spec, e.g. xenon lights is set by the individual importer. Anything can be added to or removed from the standard spec as and when it is needed. All that is needed is that the build sheet that goes down the line with the car is changed to match.

If it's not as specified in the contract then SUK could be deemed to be in breach of contract.

And as such I will be seeking compensation in one form or another and should it be impossible to come to a mutual agreement then I may have to seek legal advice or cancel the order altogether.

Skoda (as all manufacturers do) will hide behind the "prices and specifications subject to change".

Earlier this year I specced up an Alfa Romeo Giulietta with 19" alloys - you could build the thing on their web configurator......I placed a £1k deposit, got all the paperwork through and then the dealer phoned me up to say "sorry, can only have 19" alloys on the Sportiva model"......I went back on the web sonfigurator while he was on the phone and the configuration was still possible.

He just pointed to the very bottom right of the screen where it said "subject to change and availability".

Mmmm, I can see a few extra phone calls and emails being fired off to the dealer network tomorrow over this one.

Be interesting to hear the answers people get. I may well get caught with the deletion of lane assist, as my order has been in for a week, but no build date yet. Oh well, we shall see......

Asked the dealer today about this and cornering foglamps, was told that probably orders accepted prior to this would have it,and he checked some info and what that said was lane assist was being dropped as an option on elegance, but nothing about the vrs which has it as std, they are going to check tomorrow with dealer support, all very confusing

I bet your order doesn't mention front assist anywhere on the paperwork. It's normally only extras that are explicitly stated.

What's on the order form, forms part of the contract.

Yes, that's my point. When I've bought new cars it's always said "Octavia 2.0tdi Elegance + Sunroof" and hasn't listed every bit of standard kit. They will argue that they have supplied what's on the paperwork.

If you have a current brochure you can argue that that's the spec you ordered against, but there is always the "subject to change" disclaimer.

I wonder how this will affect deliveries of the Elegance model where Front Assist is supposed to be standard, or whether it will be deleted from the Elegance spec?

Depends how bad the shortage is.

If they are getting some parts they may have enough flowing to cover Elegances with it as standard, or they may just take it back off the spec.

I assume the important parts are common with Leons, Golfs and A3s though, so will be interesting to see what VAG do. It's probably more sensible for them to use them on their premium brands first.

Some clarification for everyone

The same with Lane Assist, it is still standard on vRS etc

They have only been removed from ordering as a further option on the SE for example, along with Adaptive Cruise and the 17" Denom Alloys

Although this sounds petty, ACC is something I really want on my next car, so this is very disappointing. Then again by the time I get round to taking the plunge, maybe it'll be available again.

I'm not bothered about ACC, but I would be reluctant to buy one without Front Assist.

Strange thing is that considering current lead times, Skoda UK presumes continuous shortages of parts half a year from now. Surely that's just knee jerk and pre-emptive, wouldn't VAG make sure enough parts are produced across next few months to maintain future supply?

I'm gutted that it's no longer available.... I've sent an email to my dealer & said I'll even wait 6month delivery time, waiting for them to get back to me as I would be highly annoyed if I ordered a new VRS get it delivered end on Jan & then find out that in q1 of 2014 it becomes available again.....

It's Such a shame & you would of thought SUK & VAG would of sorted supply issues. I sure if I was to go order a new Audi s3 I wouldn't get the same story.

I wouldn't bet on it. A colleague had an 8 month wait for an A3 because the sunroof and 1.8TSI engines were causing delays.

I seem to one of the few who arent to bothered about these "driver aids" being removed. For starters i would never depend on a sensor to maintain my distace or brake for me as the system dosent work, (vw's own demo video). As for lane assist i dont need that too, i'm more than capable of looking over my shoulder before i change lane.

That's not what it does, it just keeps you between the white lines.

As for your other comments, I kind of agree, however it depends how you view driving aids. ACC, Front Assist, Lane Assist etc etc, are safety nets, they're there for when things go wrong. Only an idiot would drive hands free or read a book because they have these aids (and these idiots do exist - which is why I kind of agree with your point).

There is a driver aid missing that no manufactuer wants to develop.- Automatic indicator for lane changing / overtaking.

I would have thought that BMW & Audi would have this given over 90% of drivers of these cars I see 99.999999999% of the time dont use them.

Speak for yourself. The only time I don't indicate is when there's no one else around.

The system *does* work - there are plenty of videos showing it happen.

That doesn't mean it's perfect, but then neither are drivers.

I wouldn't change my driving to rely on it, but I know there are times where I've made a mistake and either not noticed the car ahead slowing immediately and then had to brake harder than I'd like. In a situation like that, front assist could save you from a huge bill and a lot of embarrasment and I'd definitely prefer a car with it fitted.

Hi all,

I appear to be in the same position as many of you. I popped in to my local dealer over the weekend and managed to negotiate a very nice pcp package on a white vRS that had pretty much every option ticket (apart from DSG - prefer manual). I had a call this morning dropping the bomb shell that pretty much all the useful features already mentioned will not be able to be fulfilled. I am feeling kind of deflated now and don't see the point in getting the car anymore.

You just know they will release the car in 6-12 months time with all the right specification and the current batch will be ones to avoid when it comes to selling your car on. How do I stand with regard to getting a refund? The main dealer phone lines are down at the moment and I spoke to the sales guy via a mobile number saying that we'd think about it, however I then followed up with a text asking him to call me regarding cancellation if they cannot produce the car. I have tried calling since but getting ignored. Not happy!

Can't believe Skoda can do this, what a joke!

"Automatic indicator for lane changing / overtaking."

How would that work, except by telepathy?

The whole point about indicating is that you do it after checking all around, but BEFORE you begin a manoeuvre.

Please forgive an off-topic rant, but:

people who signal late (e.g., whose brake lights ever come on before their indicators) really annoy / worry / frighten me - even more than people who fail to indicate at all.

People who don't bother to signal at all are rude / lazy / ignorant / inconsiderate / generally a pain in the arse.  However peole who signal late are much more of a worry - they are really frightening because they are clearly so stupid that they don't even have the faintest idea what the purpose is of signalling.  That is really worrying.  They just do it out of force of habit or because they have been told "You always signal as you go round a corner".

If you are so dim that you cannot grasp the the purpose of signalling is in order to tell other road users what you intend to do (as distinct from telling them what you have already started to do) then you shouldn't be behind a steering wheel.  [End of rant]

Im not bothered about loosing thede, what i m bothered about is loosing them and nothing extra being introduced instead,as they wont drop the price of the car
