Whooshing noise when fuel cap is removed

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've just gone to fuel up my Mk1 vRS and heard a whooshing noise as I removed the petrol cap.

Clearly there was a vacuum! The question is.....should there be? I dont generally run the tank right down to 'running on fumes' (like today!) but I'm pretty sure I havent heard this before.

I havent got any warning lights up on the dash, so havent bothered to plug my scanner in yet.

Probably completely irrelevant but I'll mention it 'just in case'... the car has just had the cambelt changed.

Any thoughts or advice much appreciated.

Cheers.

Perfectly normal

Every car ive owned has done this

The whoosh is perfectly normal and nothing to worry about.
