Driving at night - Dipped beam - Horrific!

Featured Replies

I dont know what wiring you have to the solonoid that controls the shutter on the blackpack lights. I dont think its as simple as taking the wires from the solonoid and putting them into the 3rd pin on the h4 plug. As you would then have low and high filaments on when you swap to full beam. This would overheat the bulb.

I think you need a new bit of loom which ever way you go

  • Can't understand all this fuss about Fabia headlights. Since I've fitted my new ones, they are brilliant - far better than the originals. Just have to top them up once a week with a shillings worth of

  • I used to be able to see perfectly well using the stock headlights - that was until everyone else got brighter and brighter headlights and now I am blinded so regularly and have spots in my eyes I can

Shame Skoda never made a diesel Mk2 vRS

Iv thought that many times. there would be alot less complaints about oil consumption and alot more happy customers. L

They should just stick a cr140 in and have done. Theres no reason why they cant, the ibiza runs the same pq25 platform and thats got one in.

I finally got around to changing the bulbs on the dipped/main beam with 50% brighter versions. A bit of a job, as every step seems to be harder than it needs to be - getting them out of the housing, getting the bulb out of its holder, get the bulb back into the holder, get bulb back into the housing...

Anyway, having done all this in daylight, I was only able to confirm the lights were actually working. Success, I thought. I was wrong. At night the light looks hardly brighter than the DRL's, which are bright, but not supposed to be as bright as headlights. I can see the edge of the light on my garage door, and have adjusted the in-cabin knob. The level goes up and down visibly, even height on both sides, just as (not) bright on both sides.

So, a couple of dumb questions for someone who knows how these lights work. Would it be possible for the light to still show, albeit weakly, if the bulb were somehow installed wrongly, say pointing off-centre, or sitting too back in the housing? Or is it the bulbs (Narva/Osram Arctic White) are just no good, or not suited to these lights?

As a matter of interest, what were these "50% brighter" bulbs?

I ask because I gather that the allegedly very much brighter Philips, Osram, etc. bulbs aren't actually anywhere near as much brighter as they claim to be.

Well, I had another go at them in daylight. They seemed to be loose in the holders. I can't say for sure I was turning them (correctly) to the right last time...  They seem to be sitting properly tight now, so I'll be able to answer my own questions when it's dark again. It does seem promising this time, as I can see light on the garage door even in sunlight, and I don't seem to recall being able to before.

Well, the bulbs weren't in properly before, and now they are. The passenger side one was especially hard to get right (the battery is in the way), took a couple of goes to ensure it stopped shaking after hitting bumps.

A decent improvement overall, and worth doing IMO. I don't see a need to go brighter again, but other people obviously feel differently. Incidentally, they are not really white, just a little less yellow than the standards.

Theres always a need to go brighter ;) haha. They never will be properly white, as theyre halogen. You need hids to get properly white/blue.

Glad you like them though :).

Iv got some philips extreme vision to fit in my high beam today. Shame its raining. I'll have to go to the local underground carpark i think
