Renault Laguna Problems

Featured Replies

Any one on here had or heard of any problems with Renault Laguna's

My dad has a 52 plate 2.2 DCI Laguna estate fully loaded with all the extras and has had is 8 months now and is begining to regret buying it due to a series of problems already.

First problem was the electric windows, the one touch up and down on the drivers side stopped working and then sometime when he locks up up to leave it the window comes opens for no reason (dealer blamed this on a faulty switch)

Second problem was the rain sensative windscreen wipers, the refused to stop at all costs even though there was no rain, the still wouldnt stop even when the key was removed and the car was locked up. This involved a trip to the dealer who had to connect the car to the computer to stop them and he was then told it was a faulty sensor and not to use them any more on automatic or it could happen again.

Third problem is was the Sat Nav, after a reasonable drive it spits the CD with all the maps on out of its drive and then gives an error of no CD but wont accept the Cd when you put it back in.

The final problem which occured a couple of days ago and has left him without a car is the clutch has gone. Not really what you expect for a car which in only two and a half years old and only done 28,000 miles.

Its now in pices at the Renault garage waiting to see if the warrenty is going to cover it.

We run 10 renaults at work - 8 meganes and 2 gunas. They've been a nightmare from start to finish.

Windows problem? seen it.

Locking/Windows problem? seen it.

Clutch gone? lucky it lasted 28K. two of ours went within 3K, one went at 82 miles. Yes, 82, not 82,000.

All types of Lagunas suffer from terrible reliability but for several Dutch car lease companies the 2.2dCi in particular is officially their worst car of the fleet. Things that they need to pay for within 100k kms:

- full engine overhaul

- full gearbox replacement (usually the auto box, but manuals too)

- full drivetrain replacement

- airco replacement

- full electric wiring replacement

With some cars that's just about the whole car except for the bodyshell...

They now advise against any customer selecting a Laguna. Or a 407 for that matter - same stories so far. In fact, their line is to stay away from French cars in general. :D

The French and technology have never got on.

They should have stuck with the Deaux Chevaux.........

Phil

Oh, and further treats he has to look forward to are:

Jamming seat runners

Rear wiper packing up

Replacing a headlamp bulb (incredibly, the bumper has to come off. No, really)

Tailgate upper part refusing to shut (and it WILL break if you slam it hard enough)

Trim rattles inside the dashboard, doors and headlining

Terrible throttle response, often as a result of dodgy intercooler, making pulling away smoothly impossible

Electrical faults (various)

Random warning lights

There are others, but there have been so many problems with ours that I lose track of what works and what doesn't.

 and yet they go so well on the renault adverts

Dads got a 52plate.

Not been too bad. But he has had loads of problems with the tyre pressure sensors and the door seals. All the deal do for the door seal is push them up again, like we haven't tried that one

Glad I didn't buy one now after reading this thread ;)

Silly me! How could I forget the tyre pressure sensors.

And speaking of door seals, there's the leak into the passenger footwell problem I forgot as well.

My stepdads has been a nightmare too. 05 plate 2.0T GT model.

Seems a bit daft in a country where you have to carry spare bulbs by law - so much for user serviceability!!! Zut alors, we did not sink of zat!!! :ne_nau:

Time to start thinking about a reject letter, and get him to drive a new octy. :).

According to my son who has spent some time in Roo's 'It is pure Quality'

The aircon's just gone wrong on my (almost) 6 year old Laguna. :( Don't know the financial damage yet, but should do on Monday.

That apart, it's not been a bad car for reliability apart from coil spring failure, ignition coil failure (warranty) and all brakes requiring replacing at 24k.

Hopefully it'll be a bit better when I pass it onto the Mrs and take delivery of the Fab.

My mate has a Laguna 2 diesel.

18,000 miles and turbo no3.

The keycard thing has left him stranded about four times.

The keycard thing has left him stranded about four times.

Couple of years ago, I was waiting to be picked up from work and I spotted a lady trying to get into her Laguna. Wandered over and asked if she was ok and she said the keycard wouldn't open the car. She was very organised and had the emergency key on her, but cos she hadn't read the manual (and that was locked in the glove box!) she couldn't figure out why it wouldn't open the driver's door! I didn't have a clue either and in the end she called out her breakdown service! :o

According to the salesman who was trying to flog me a Laguna, the emergency key will only open the passenger's side door, but that may well not be true, with the amount of other BS he was spouting ;)

Thats correct. If you look on the passenger door hande. You'll see a picture of a key where the lock would be. Pop this off to fine a traditional lock. Dont know it this disables the alarm mind

The AA guy reset my old Laguna when the keycard stopped working. He popped the bonnet up, removed all the fuses and waited 5 minutes. Stuck them in again, then the keycard worked as everything was reset. "We get this all the time" he said. We've had 5 Lagunas in my company which had a catalogue of issues. Even a Renault UK employee admitted that the cars "were not up to the standard we wanted them to be at".

Faults? Various electrical things going wrong, turbos failing, engine management issues, keycard locking, irregular tyre wear (scuffing on outside rims), tyre pressure sensors (inaccurate when temp changes and poor plastic clips holding control unit to underside of car), etc.

My personal favourite was driving down the M73 when the car said something along the lines of "Emergency breaking system inoperative. Normal breaking system only. Please visit a Renault dealership.", followed by "Windscreen washer fluid low". At that time, I really didn't give a sod about the washer fluid! I was more concerned about whether I could stop the car!!

Needless to say, we don't drive Renault Lagunas any more. We're all on Skodas (a Fabia, some Octys and one Superb). The only Renaults we have left are Trafic vans, which are being replaced very, very shortly as they're a nightmare too. (Wiring looms, engines, turbos, suspension, brake systems etc etc).

We have one Laguna on our fleet, 02 reg and the only problem i'm aware of is it used to open the drivers side window randomly. So you would get up on a morning and find the window down, not a particularly good thing when you find a very wet interior and all your CD's missing!

A quick update to my dads Laguna which has now been in the Renault Garage for a week

Garage confirm the clutch needs replacing but that it will not be covered by warranty as its failed due to normal wear and tear (two and a half years and 28K seems unreasnoable for a clutch to fail)

Due to clutch failing damage fly wheel has been over heated again not a warranty problem.

Estimated cost of repair from Renault is around

There may be a top of the range Renauly Laguna going up for sale very shortly!

Is that for parts ;)

Any suggestions

The usual. Trading standards to get sales of goods information, correspond with them in writing, inform them that in law, the warranty they offer is IN ADDITION to your statutory rights- eg sales of goods act, trade description. Threaten them with, and then seek if necessary legal action. Basically become a right pain! hth

I have heard of nightmare experiences with Laguna's too - incredible electrical problems, allegedly.

As for entry key cards - just does not seem right,to me.

Couldn't agree more mate: Surely all these complaints can't be wrong!!!!

My 52 plate Laguna drives great if you agnore all the warning lights and flashing signs which periodically appear on the dashboard and instrument cluster.

Seen it, done it, got the tee-shirt with the air-bag lights, tyre pressure gizmo's, rear suspension bushes lasting little more than a tank of petrol and the latest just this morning.....orange abs light AND the red brake warning display both on constantly AND speedo no longer works.

Parts man at my local Renault cheerfully advised me this is a known problem and probably requires replacement of the instrument panel at the "reasonable" cost of ONLY

I once saw a laguna in a garage and the problem with it was that when you tried to change the cd in use on the head unit the rear windows went down.
