transmission losses

Featured Replies

hi all,

i was reading the octy vs GTI-R thread and someone mentioned the GTI-R had terrible transmission losses. i know 4wd lose more but i guess some are better than others.

does anyone know how much the octy vRS loses compared with say my A4 Quattro, i cant think there is much in it, but i dont really know

My RS had an 8% transmission loss IIRC

VW tuner specialists TSR reckon that you are looking at about a 15-20% loss from flywheel to road

your quottro would be around 20% -25% i would have thought

was just wondering as my car is 190bhp octy was 180bhp, audi is heavier 0-60 times are as near as they can be and top speed is only a few mph different too.

My Scooby made 251bhp at Power Engineering (so probably closer to 235bhp ;)) with the power at the wheels peaking at 178bhp, so about 30% by my flakey maths :D

Friend's standard UK car made 300bhp at the wheels but only 160bhp at the fly

Chris

blimey!!!! my 4x4 (according to jabba) made 226bhp fly and 180bhp at the wheels in 4x4 mode

Yes , but don't forget that with a rolling road they can only measure the power at the wheels and then guesstimate power at the engine based on what they believe the transmission losses are.

To measure power at the flywheel they need to have it out of the car and sat on a bench.

Hey Jason , perhaps your spare could be used for testing....
