Nice forum.

 

I am presently running Octavia  MK 2 with 1.4 TSI  (122ps) 7 speed   DSG  , purchased  new in Jan 2012

Really pleased with DSG as i was with exactly the same set up in my previous car a   VW Golf mk6 

 

I see the new Mk3 Octavia Elegance has the 1.4 TSI (140PS  not 122ps ) 7 speed DSG  box .

 

Are these  7 speed boxes all  identical  ?

 

I  believe some DSG's  can have wet or dry dual clutches .........

 

I understand some dsg boxes have given problems in the past..... I can only say my two examples have been perfect and i shall never return to a  manual box.

 

Info on the mk3 dsg would be appreciated.

I had a mark2 VRS with a DSG box, no problems with that.

I now drive a Yeti with a DSG box, no problems so far,

And I have just ordered a new mark 3 VRS with a DSG box.

I would recommend the DSG, a fantastic piece of kit.

The 7 Speed DSGs are all Dry Clutch while the 6 speed are Wet Clutch, ie. run in an oil bath.  The 7 Speed are more economical than the 6 as the are light but cant handle as much torque.

 

Some 7 Speed have had problems in the past and have had the warranty extended in the USA and far east -to 5 and 7 years.  It is possible that the newer 7 speeds have had the issues fixed but there appears to be little confirming data at present.

VAG have had a wet seven speed dsg box in use for a while now but im not sure if its this or the older seven speed dry clutch (that's fitted to your mk2) that papers in the 1.4 140bhp octy mk 3. My guess wold be its the same dry running unit as in the older Octavia due to the 'average' torque output of the newer 1.4tsi.

I had the old DSG-7 box and it was very good, however I found that if you did a long (fast motorway/dual carriageway) journey and then dropped back into normal stop/start traffic the car would stutter between 1st & 2nd when starting away from a stand.

 

I was told that it was the mechatronics unit was on its way out and that it would be expensive to repair or replace. My dealer tried to replicate the fault but it always came back from the dealer with NFF on the report sheet, 

 

So all in all the DSG-7 is a very good box but it did have its glitches, as I haven't driven the latest revision of DSG-7 if there's such a thing, but I wouldn't hesitate to have one and if SUK keep giving me the runaround with the vRS then I may consider moving to an SE or Elegance trim model with 1.4 engine and DSG-7 instead. 

I had to get my 59 plate DSG-7 clutch pack replaced after just 10,000 miles - juddered on change to 2nd every time if on an incline.  Car was just outside of warrenty so they offered manufacturers good will.  Cost me £400 after a bit of arguing I managed to get a free next service aswell.

My DSG7 Mechatronics unit packed up at only 14 k miles/4 y.o. £2200 to replace but Skoda paid 60% after I threw a wobbly. SIX WEEKS before I got my car back due to snail processing at HQ plus a dealer administration error. Still got the traditional DSG 2nd gear judder so new clutch pack will be the next thing......

Had 6 speed on my Mk2 and now have a 7 speed on my Mk3 1.4TSI. No problems with either.

But I was conscious it could be expensive if it did break, so took out the optional Skoda 5 year extended warranty when I ordered the TSI.

Yes if you plan to keep the car beyond the normal warranty period taking the 5 year extension is a good idea given the complexities of modern cars especially DSGs. Having said that I had my 6 speed DSG for 7 years with absolutely no problems but I took the 5 year extension for my Golf.

Steve, great feedback but unless you're car has been updated since you last changed your signature, yours in a Mk2 and this is the Mk3 section, I'm not sure if they are mechanically the same unit but, the Mk3 has the DSG250 in it. 

There has been significant issues with the with the first dry-clutch DSG7 in the past. According to Skoda Sweden there is a new mechatronic-unit and updated software in the version fitted to the Octavia mk 3. If you do an online search you`ll find numerous negative experiences with DSG7 (the dry-clutch variant) on various VAG cars, but as far as I was able to make out hardly any from the last couple of years, and none posted from octavia mk 3. I bought an 2014 elegance fwd with 1.8 TSI and DSG7. We have so far driven 26000 km without problems.

I have seen no complaint so far on DSG7 (DQ200), for cars built after end 2013.

I did some serious surfing on the DGS box before I got my car, because I'd read previously about the problems. As far as i'm concerned they're historic, and the box now is no worse for reliability that an ordinary manual or traditional automatic.

 

(Subject to the inevitability that there will be some breakdowns - as there will be with any type.)

I'm just over 2,000 miles into a Mk3 TSi 1.4 SE with the 7-speed DSG. Other than managing creep at maneouvering speeds, it's excellent - almost imperceptible shifts and good economy: I'm averaging just over 46mpg measured on a tank-to-tank refill.

But...I'm on a three-year PCP, so if there are any long-term issues they won't be mine. Touch wood.

I am 40,000km into a 1.4 TSI DSG7 and find the DSG gearbox to be much better than my previous car - Golf V 1.4 TSI DSG6 - at low speeds.

I do not have any problems at low speed at all.

I on a 3 year company car plan, so any long term issues won't be mine either :)
