Vrs Owners Club?

Featured Replies

:drive1

Hi all, i'm a newb to this Skoda lark, having just bought a September 2001 vRS from Turners of Sedgefield (any experience/comments about them?). Does an owners club exist, especially up here in SmogLand (aka Middlesbrough), or is their any kind of enthusiast scene? I'm still in something of a state of shock at having blown 11 grand on a Skoda, but i took the vRS for a test drive last week as well as an MG ZT, Civic Type R and Leon Cupra, and knew that i HAD to have it - a fantastic machine that left me beaming after the test drive. Having only just found this site, i see that a problem with coil packs exists - what sort of mileage does this tend to show at (22k on new car), and is it a warranty covered replacement. If it isnt covered by warranty, how much is replacement?

Welcome to the forums.

Lets get some questions answered :)

I can not actually find a dealer with that name in the Skoda Dealerships Review forum, but that might just be me ;). Have a look there yourself and see if you can spot it.

You've just found it! There are many members around that area and quite a few meet up every Thursday evening for a beer, a chat and a spin. I'm sure someone else will point out the details of this to you.

There is no fixed milage that coilpacks go at, and yours might even be replaced already (mine were on my 2nd user vRS), and it is easy to check this. The dodgy coilpacks can be identified by ending in the letter 'H'. IIRC, the type to have is 'J' or 'L' (these are more recent coilpacks). I think they are about £18+vat, but the dealer should replace them under warranty if they go. They will not (unless they are very nice and helpfull) replace them if they aren't broke.

Q,

You're confusing the North East - Good and wholesome whippet owning people - with the North West - Dodgy mopped hairdo, Oasis loving people ;)

Cupid,

There isn't any regular meet in the North East that I'm aware of (unless people are not telling me about it). I for one would quite fancy the sort of thing our Manc mates have got going on a Thursday evening to the point that I've nearly jumped in the car and driven over on several occasions.

On a final and more important note regarding Turners, search out my review of them :(

Well, what do I know... I'm a bloody foreigner! :D Northern England means north of the Thames to me ;)

Q,

Don't worry about it. It's not your foreign status that is keeping you in the dark about the great North East/West, it's the fact that geography books in the South just refer to the rest of the country as "The North" ;)

No apologies to any Southern Softies reading this as you won't be able to find me to give me a kicking :D

Thats quite alright, I fully realise that being from the back of beyond with all those inbreds and hicks I dont think I would waste my energy trying to look.

Just some questions for you though..

Have you moved on from gaslights?

Do you still use slates to write?

Do you all still wear cloth caps?

Should we just nuke the whole area north of the Thames so as to allow us more educated, eloquent and non-whingeing Southerners to have bigger gardens?

I think the answer to all of those questions is a "Yes" do you think...so lets just tell Bush to do us a favour:D

Cheers

Andy

Cupid, welcome to the site :)

Oh dear, Turners, where do we start ??

So far on the Forum, their sales staff have been slated, their servicing Dept likewise, maybe someone has a good word about the tea lady or the office cat, but i'm doubtful :D.

As for a regular NE meet, hmmm, tis an interesting thought, i rather enjoyed our little run out into the wilds the other week, so something more regular, but on a smaller scale would be worth thinking about.

hmmmm, I'm starting to get a vibe about Turners, wish i'd found this site before i put the deposit down. Well i pick up the car on Wednesday-ish, so i guess i'll have to suck it and see wont i? Their sales satff were okay in fairness, although i did have to approach them initially to enqire about a test drive, imagine they thought 'eh up, boy racer, ignore the skin headed ****', but they soon loosened up when i talked about cash etc. They dont like to haggle though do they.

As for southerners, just three words - Laurence Llewellyn-Bowen.

i rest my case m'lud

One mystery of the (online) Universe - why do spelling mistakes only appear AFTER you press submit? Is it a conspiracy by Southerners to make us northern yobs look iitttiilerate? Or does such thing as 'pre-submission dylsexica exist'? hmmmm, must patent that one....

Welcome, Cupid (from the other Howard!!)

I have to watch what I say, living somewhere in 'the sarf', but my wife (from Essex) has noted that people in the North East are generally more friendly and approachable than those in the South. Of course, I'm sure that doesn't apply to anyone here! :D

Andy, only the staff at Beamish still wear/do that stuff (woth a visit if you're ever in the area!)

Cheers,

S******.....;)

Andy

Cupid,

Don't worry about having bought from Turner's - it's not as if you have to go back there once you own the car ;)

Cupid

How much was it up for? How much did you get it for?

it was on sale for £11000, got 'em down to £10700 plus 6 months tax. They either really hate to knock money off or they are expert hagglers, cos they werent going any lower no matter what i tried! Its a sept 2001 model with 22000 miles on the clock, in top nick, no chips, scratches etc.

Better than nothing, I suppose. Derek Slacks have a red obne in as well at the moment - up for 10999 I believe.

Am looking to up the bhp on her so if you know of some good mods and where to get them from.

Was told to look out for some 17 inch wheels as it got 16 inch on it.

To chip it up and put a dump valve on it.

;)Did someone say Owners' Club?:P:cool::thumbup:

:o I feel so stupid now. I've been sitting here trying to work out how come no one was laughing at the guy for paying £10,700 for a 2001 vRS :o :O

A thread from the dead!

Are there any VRS meets around the West Sussex area?
