Tips for inspecting a Fabia VRS 1.9 TDI 2005

Featured Replies

Hello to all,

I might shortly be buying a Fabia VRS 1.9 TDI 2005 with 140k on the clock, only one previous owner, and I have been told it has a full service history.

Unfortunately this car is a long way from what I call home, and I cannot drag my mechanic along with me.

I was wondering if anyone could enlighten me into what I should be looking for when inspecting the car. Please bare in mind I have never owned a diesel, but I have an idea of what a diesel should sound like from having driven a few here and there.

Thanks,

Brendan

id say the usual things to check are...

* service history intervals and whats been changed... cambelt water pump etc.

* start car, dip the clutch and listen for dmf knocking/banging.

* usual knocks and noises associated with suspension issues.

* test drive and check all gears at different revs/loads and see if changing gears are slick and easy and if any clutch slip.

if anyone else can add anything ive missed.

This as I got caught out when buying my vRS :(

Same lol just look over the hole thing, take a torch and get involved

Take a jack with you and jack the car up and check around the engine under tray for signs of oil/water as it can hide leaks from the sump and radiator. I got caught out with this as the radiator on mine had a nice rusty spot on it where it was leaking.
