I'm struggling to get the carrier bolts off the hub upright!

They seem to on pretty damn tight.

Is it a 18mm or 19mm socket i should be using?

18mm mate. I found turning the wheel so the front faces out (left hand wheel turned left, right hand wheel turned right) made it easier to get to. I only used a stanley socket and short socket wrench. It just needs a good crack in the right direction and you should be away. Or you could try soaking it in wd40 for a few mins.

18 mm mate - plenty of WD40 if you are struggling.

Slowly, Slowly - Catchy Monkey

Don't wanna be damaging that cause it will be expensive!!

Mine were fine but then mine is a new car.

socket, bar and a BFO hammer. tools of the pro's

The wheel is off so I could get to it easily & I've left it to soak in WD40 for a bit.

Looks like I'll have to go & buy a 18mm socket then! It's the only size I don't have!

18mm eh? Odd - The vast majority of bolts I've found have either been 13mm or 17mm... Nice of Skoda to throw a spanner in the works, excuse the deliberate pun. :D

Right, got meself a 18mm socket & the caliper & carrier are off.

The disc is being awkward now! Soaked it in WD40 as well & gave a few whacks to loosen it up. It won't budge!

I gonna a have sit down & a cup o' tea.

Mine wouldn't come off either. If you gently squirt WD40 in the bolt holes you can get it to run down between the hub and disk. Then make yourself another coffee and wait.

I used a hide mallett but a good lump hammer and a bit of wood would do I expect. Hit it a couple of times, rotate it 180' and hit it again, keep going till you win!!

Are Skoda glueing them on the hub or something?!

:D That's cheered me up a bit!

On my third cup of coffee & about to make one hell of racket!

go on my son, beat it!!!!

go on my son, beat it!!!!

Well it did the trick!

Can't wait to do the other side! :D

see, mechanical genius me!! :P

So when you've done the removal part, before putting it back together use some copper grease, that way you won't have this problem again ;)

Next question is:- What size allen key is used to undo the caliper slider?

It's inbetween a 6mm & 8mm (and don't say 7mm cos they don't make one!!).

1/4" is a tad small & 5/16" is too big.

AHHHHHHH!!! It is 7mm!

AHHHHHHH!!! It is 7mm!

I was just gonna say they DO bloody well make a 7mm!

Its good to see someone having as much fun modding as I usually do.

 - you won the price for guessing the number between 6 and 8 ;)

How do you mean though they don't do a 7mm one?

Goes all the way up to very large size at 1mm steps.

Hopefully you'll be able to find one - Woolworths used to do little kits for little money, pretty sure it would have it in.

Why are you undoing the caliper slider?

All I did with mine was assembled the caliper/carrier/pads, popped the new disc on, slid the caliper/carrier/pads over the disc and bolted it up.

When i replace the pads, ill just take the caliper off ond do it that way rather than struggle and graze my knuckles.

The same 7mm ones you'll need if you put Eibachs on the Fabia too

LOL, 5 hrs to do the first side, 1 hr to do the other! :D

The reason I had to take sliders off was that I fitted the carrier to the hub without the caliper. Then when I came to put the caliper on, I found it wouldn't fit.

Anyway, they're both on now & looking the dogs. Haven't tested yet I'm hungry & deserve a few beers! :D

I'll bed them in for the first couple o' hindred miles & then really test them!!

well done mate, I know how you feel. Isn't it good to stand back and admire them.

I take it you had undone the screw before beating the disc off?
