Running in..

Featured Replies

I try to follow the book - although by doing so I'm more or less driving the way I'm usually doing anyway (i.e. max 3/4 rpm).

It's not always easy to follow the book. The engine is snappy, so when puling away one easily breaks 5000 rpm in the first gear if not careful.

Once the engine is run in I intend to use all it's revs. whenever required (overtaking etc). I have yet to hit the rev-limiter, so I'm looking forward to that first experience

aye, drive it normally....

Thanks for the replies. I never rev a cold engine hard and these engines seem to reach operating temperature in no time!

Not revved it over 4.5k yet which and as mentioned above they are revvy little power plants :-)

Might have a drive up to Kielder water this afternoon and get some miles under its belt.

Merged a couple of threads as they were asking basically the same question

It is a lovely revvy little engine. IMO though theres not much point going past about 5K as once above that the engine starts to run out of steam a bit, though i believe the 75ps version should still keep pulling as that unit delevops its peak power at 6200rpm?

Ah well, I guess theres always a remap

At 600 miles now. Keeping it by 4500 rpm and not letting the wee engine labour.... 400 miles to go.

I'd follow manufacturer recommendations, although I did work for a Japanese car company and they bench test all there engines and make them sing, then they go on a quick drive to check suspension and rattles etc and get booted and then they are usually put in a car park and booted around a little bit more to transporters.

So it's probably not even worth it haha

I'm on 1700 miles now. Never laboured it at all. Always getting most out of the gears. I did take it to just over 5K rpm the other day in 3rd but was running out of puff. Mines flat under 2K rpm then it delivers good power.
