Robs subtle bright red VRS Mk1

Featured Replies

After lurking on the forum for nearly two years Clive from CN Tuning listed a low mileage vRS for sale, I couldn't resist!

So here's a photo from before I bought her:

I got on the phone to Clive, I was excited that he was selling the car because I wanted to buy from someone I could trust and someone who knew about cars. We came to a deal over money with a few modifications and additions :D

I mentioned that I was going to spray the grill black, next thing I new I had this picture message arrived, the new grill looks great but the stone chips needed to go!

So Clive did his thing on the bonnet and the stone chips are gone! A few other things followed, an R-Tech stage 1 remap and a new timing belt (for peace of mind) went in and we were almost ready to go. Engine bay had a nice tidy up:

Driving home was a bit of an epic. Long story short, remap killed two coil packs in 3 hours. The first went on the test drive and was quickly swapped out. The second one went on the motorway outside Oxford (Driving from Bracknell to West Wales!). I had a spare coil pack in the car but the one that went was inaccessible without tools. A call to the RAC and a 40 minute wait and I was on my way home again. Enjoying the power but a little gun-shy about the remaining unchanged coilpacks!

Here she is, in her new home, I think I need to re-spray or dip the grille but she's looking tidy!

Next steps:

I've ordered the Team Heko wind deflectors, should arrive today hopefully.

Cupra R splitter wanted, just waiting to see if one comes up cheap somewhere. Will be sorting out a CAI today, I know it's not overly subtle but I love the noise. I'll fit the wind deflectors and then work out if I want to wrap the b-pillars in matt black or carbon fibre...

Yeah. Wasn't the best time to be me!

Gave the car a good wash today. No clay bar or polish as the rain was coming in but the carplan shampoo+wax in one seemed to do OK

I would do the proper covers if I could find them anywhere!

Still haven't found any covers but I fitted a stereo today, I like the look and I think it fits in nicely with the rest of the trim:

I _really_ need some new carpet, hoping to find something really tidy to go in. Something that reflects the overall low-mileage of the car!

Maybe when that's in, I'll take some interior shots in the daylight!

I recently bought a Jabbasport induction kit and a forge DV. The DV was a dull grey, looks like it had been in an engine for a long time!

I started polishing it up with some autosol then realised how much you guys like before and after photos.

So here's a photo just as the polishing started, so much crap came off before I even took this photo:

So fitted and running, yellow spring - so I am told ;)

She's running lovely now. I used to have a strange dip in power when planting it from low revs. For example, in third gear from low revs, say 1250rpm with my foot fully down you'd feel the power build up, as you climbing up to and through 2000 revs you start getting pushed into the seat, then there's a dip in power, you literally feel your weight come forward slightly before getting pinned back for the rest of the rev range.

Now the power is smooth, no more dip in the early-spooling phases. Happy!

Engine needs cleaning!

I'm still running the standard airbox (faffing around getting silicone bits to fit my jabbasport induction kit) so it's probably no suprise to hear that there's very little change to the noise. I think I noticed it once with the window open.

I assume that if the spring was _too_ stiff I'd have some way of knowing it? I'm running a custom R-Tech stage-1 remap (courtesy of a favour from Clive) so I think the yellow is about the right stiffness...

FYI, the S2000 filter is mahoosive!

I'm not sure I can fit it with my Jabbasport kit, time will tell. Here's a size comparison:

Just you wait ;)

Plan is to plastidip the cream parts black and trim some of the ugly bits :)

This would also be my plan if I was putting it in the engine bay, although some suppliers send them with black body/red element (GSF I think).

God damn bugger balls!

Just washed it down with the pressure washer, typical weekend wash down. Got some crap off the mirror, this is what was left when I moved on:

I'm guessing I've got two options:

a) Remove it, wet+dry all the laquer off, smooth it out and rattle-can it red and then laquer it.

B) Remove both mirrors, smooth down and plasti-dip them black

Does anyone have photos of a car running option B?

Cheers

-Rob
