2004 Vrs with leaks

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Looking for a bit of help if possible!

I have a 2004 Vrs which has developed a leak somewhere!!

On going into the boot the other day the whole carpet was soaked! It looked as if the water was coming from a hollow above the rear drivers side back lights! The water was dripping off it!

I do not know where the water can be coming from, any ideas??

I have ordered replacement seals/rubbers for the boot and doors but to be honest i don't know where to start!!

To add to this I found the rear passengers seat on the drivers side wet this morning as well!!

Has anyone had a similar problem??

Common fault with the hatch is water running off and into the boot when you open it, but that normally soaks the rear speaker area (cured by a bead of silicone around the glass, do a search as been covered loads).

The front foot wells getting wet is another common problem, can be caused by the angle of the car when parked (water works it's way over the door seals) or someone may have cut away the plastic membrane inside the door (normally to fit bigger speakers) which allows the water to run down behind the door trim and into the car.

I have just moved and my drive has a slight camber to it, if I park nose onto the garage then the passenger floor well gets damp, and if I park backend to the garage the drivers floor gets damp!

Now parking across the drive in front of the house, problem solved.

Oh and before anybody says park in the garage I can't because that's where the rally car lives (or will be when I've finished the building work!).

Check where your tail gate struts bolt into the car. My offside one was loose and the carpet got soaked. If it is loose you can nip it up with a spanner.
