Number plate lights monitorewd by Canbus?

Featured Replies

So,

Thinking of changing the number plate lights to LED's, i have an LED festoon bul in the interior light so went to try that in it but found its to long.

Anyway, i thought i would see if the number plate is monitored by canbus, i removed the bulb from one light and switched the headlights on, and started the engine, got no warnings what so ever that the bulb was out!

So this makes me wander if the rear numberplate lights are monitored by the canbus as people on here have previously said?

Cheers

My Octy was monitored. If one was out there was no warning but with two out I got a warning. I put 2 led,s with resistors in there and had no problems. Normal non resistor led,s give a warning so are no good.

No not covered by canbus , carry on but get the resistor ones

Put the wrong ones in and you WILL get a dash light.

I'll find a link to the ones I bought, they are Jonro's led thread ones with the heat sink.

I think external are monitored by canbus.

Take both out then and see what happens. If not monitored you wouldn't need resistor led,s.

Ohh ok, i never thought about removing both lights, ill give it a go tomorrow and see what happens. seems odd why it wouldnt tell me about one light out, my old octy told me i had a DRL out on the passenger side!

I fitted mine with resistor ones for heat but tried standard non canbus ones and worked fine as the interior , however the drls need canbus ones

In my case, yes. I change to LED the plate lights and get the error, but I put the warning emulator and works perfectly.

What size leds are required for the number plate lights?  Thanks in advance.

Yep, 36mm in fabia to.

I just fitted higher wattage bulbs of the same size, from halfords. they look better and are a fair bit brighter, without overdo-ing things. (10 watt as compared to standard 5 watt, I think)!

Interesting i didn't know you could do that.
